SMT5600: Use the phone without a SIM card?

Recommended Posts

I tried searching for this, but was unable to come up with anything.

Is there any way to use the phone (limited functionality, just play with the mens and mess around) without having a sim inserted?

How do I get past the "Invalid or missing SIM card" message?

Thanks

You need to have a valid network sim card in it (or get it unlocked and have any network sim card in it)

Yeah, one key difference between the PPC phone edition and the smartphone platform is that smartphones need a sim.

That isn't 100% true. If the phone is locked, then you will need a SIM card that matches the carrier for that phone. The SIM card does not need to be active. If the phone is unlocked, then any SIM card will work, active or not.

Place the phone in Areoplane mode, power off the phone and remove SIM.

Now power back on again.

:)

I do this on all my other phones when testing etc as it's a pain to swap SIM cards all the time just to try something out.

Do you need a valid sim card to unlock the phone, or can you just use any?

I forget what is needed for the 5600. The website may tell you, or you can mail their support desk which usually responds within a couple hours. For my old MPx200, I believe there was a requirement that I had to have a SIM card from a different carrier than what the phone was locked too.

The SIM needs to be different to the network the phone is locked to

otherwise it will not ask for the unlock code.

AWESOME. Thanks a ton. I thought so, but I wanted to be sure before I pay to get it unlocked.
