Guest scottishdave Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 I posted a few days ago regarding my memory card arriving from orange completely blank. Since then I've tried to right the odd file to the card but it takes forever and I mean forever. I usually get impatatient and stop the transfer. There was a noticable difference in how the phone performed when I had just taken it out of the box and once I put the card in. For some reason I didn't think anything of it. I decided to pop the card into a reader we have in one of our PCs and low and behold my 16mb mini sd card had 320mb available!!! Incredible. I've had my phone all of a week and it's now so slow even with the memory card out and after a hard reset. Is there anything I can do to get the phone runnig a quick as it did when I had just taken it out of the box? It's running Operator v 4.1.1.4 Is there an update newer that this? If not can I install the 4.1.1.4 update over the top in the hope that it sorts things out? My thinking behind this is it would be a nice clean install. PS - Orange refused to replace the memory card saying that "It's not in their interests to replace accessories that come with their phones." Even within the 14 statutory garantee period. b****rds! I know the cards are cheap but that's not the point.
Guest squall Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 If the hard reset didnt fix the problem the next step is to reinstall the latest orange rom. This will wipe the phones os and reinstall it. The latest c500 orange uk rom can be found http://web.orange.co.uk/yourphone/spvc500/...l?id=sm_1137635
Guest scottishdave Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 By reinstalling the latest ROM I'm not going to bugger things up am I?
Guest Disco Stu Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 No. it's pretty much the same as doing a hard reset, just with a new ROM installed as well ! Just make sure you follow the instructions carefully. :)
Guest scottishdave Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 Ha HA! Done. My phone is as good as new. It's so much quicker than my old SPV :) Thanks for your help Disco Stu!
Guest Disco Stu Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 Good to hear you got yourself sorted, though the thanks ought to go to Squall really  :)
Guest scottishdave Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 SH*T Sorry Squall. :) A simple case of reading the wrong name. I'll stop digging before I upset anybody else. Thank you to all who gave advice.
Guest KeyriBhoy Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 If you have a larger memory card does that affect performance or is it only if its full
Guest squall Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 The ammount of free space on the memory card has no real impact on the speed of the phone. If you want to fill the card the phone will still run fine, and be able to access the card. Just means you may not be able to save to the card until you delete some stuff
Guest scottishdave Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 The memory card WAS affecting the phones performance. Heavily. When I removed it the phone's performance improved grately. For example: To access the sounds menu; On key press with memory card: circa 90 seconds On key press without memory card: almost instantanious. HTC said they are aware of this happening but it isn't common. Regardless, I have a new card and all is well.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 I had a Kingmax card on my MPX200 which was giving all sorts of problems. Some of the cheaper makes can cause problems so most people here seem to use Sandisk.
Guest Nuno Valle Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 I'll try to explain it shortly. I have a SPV-E200 with the last ROM from Orange and a Kingston SD 512Mg. With my digital camera, pc and old SPV-E100 the memory card works well, but wont work with my SPV-E200 and another one with the same ROM. I cannot save anything to the storage card, not even through activesync directly from pc. I tried a 256 SD from another supplier with the same results. I can only manage to save to the original 8Mg card. Hopefully there's an easy solution for this problem. Many thanks in advance for your help
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 With the E200 you must use single layer cards as dual layer are not compatable with phone. Sandisk are single layer and work well.
