MPx220 Battery Charge Policy

I just received my MPx220 and I have had it charged for a few hours and all four boxes are full. Does this mean the battery is full?

I also read the manual and it said to let it charge for 24 hours even if the battery showed it as full.

I have seen a lot of recommendations to let devices with batteries charge for 24 hours before use? Does this actually help? Does it really matter?

24 hours is excessive, however it is worth leaving it on charge for a time after the battery shows as being fully charged.
