When I bought my phone at the cingular store they said there was no insurance on my phone if it gets broken or something. Is there some kind of manufacturers warranty?

There should be. I pay $4 a month for protection on my phone. If it breaks, they told me that they'd replace it.

There is a warranty, but that doesn't protect you from losing it or breaking it. It will cover it from a manufacturers defect. You can also subscribe to the warranty protection plan from AT&T/Cingular which is cheap and they will send you a advanced replacement. If you do not elect for this coverage you will have to send the phone back to the manufacturer and wait for them to fix it and send it back to you.

I bought the MPx200 a month or so after it was released. I subscribed to the insurance and warranty plan and everything was perfect. I used the warranty plan once, and then a few months ago I called up about the insurance plan. Lockline told me that they don't normally cover these phones, but since I had been paying for the coverage for a year, they would replace it as a one time customer courtesy.

If it breaks I am sure they would replace it, but only once.

The warranty covers mfg defects. The insurance option is not available for high end phones like the Mpx220, Treo, Blackberry, RazrV3 etc. Cingular keeps saying soon, soon. Verizon covered all phones and all pda/smartphones. I dont lose m expensive toys but they can get stolen.

When I was back on sprint, everyone said that lockline wouldn't replace my $500 G1000 Pocket PC phone. Well I had it replaced twice, so I proved them wrong. I don't know how it works on Cingular, but if they are using lockline, there's probably ways around it.

The issue with insurance on Cingular was intially users were able to get the insurance added but Cingula quickly stopped that and refunded any fees collected. I keep being told soon, soon they will offer it. Well maybe they should just follow Verizon's lead and offer a complete package. Lockline and

Asurion make it simple. If you replace two phones in the same 12 months then you are dropped for 1 year. If they are worried about scammers then they need to fix it, and by fixing it I don't mean preventing certain phones from being covered.

I agree insurance is a must on a device that costs this much and since it "unlocked" more likelyt o be stolen. But as we all know insurance companies don't like to pay out claims and if they do they just raise our premiums.
