Guest pikotech Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 I've had a good search and just can't find anything on this topic, surely it must have been covered before. If so, I would be grateful if someone can give me the URL of the thread. PHONE: - Original SPV - Unlocked - De-Certified - O2 SIM - Latest Version Windows SmartFone 2002 (or was it 2000?) PROBLEM: I'm not quite sure... I currently have aeroplane mode switched on, I have to. If I switch it off, the moment I get signal, my phone will switch itself off (not shut down) and the led will stay on for perhaps a few seconds then switch itself off too. I've checked my SIM card in another phone and it is fine, with signal too. I've inserted a Vodafone SIM card and I still have the same problem. I have been using this phone for about 6 months, no problems and no recent programs have been installed so I'm rather clueless. If anyone could suggest something that would be great. Ideally I would like to re-install everything including Windows but I can't find any way to do that? Maybe it's time I get myself an XDA II at last  Thanks in advance Paul
Guest pikotech Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 ronny, Thanks, I've just done that... Not sure if its fixed the problem yet as it seems to have SIM locked my phone to Orange again. Does anyone know where I can find a thread with instructions for sorting this? Thanks,
Guest ronny Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 ronny, Thanks, I've just done that... Not sure if its fixed the problem yet as it seems to have http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=3976>SIM Lock my phone to Orange again. Does anyone know where I can find a thread with instructions for sorting this? Thanks, huh!? doing a hard reset, does'nt have anything to do with the network lock. the network lock status is embeded in the rom and not the os. so it will stay unlock even if you do a hard reset, with the exception of the E200/Voyager of caurse which is capable of doing a temporary network lock. maybe what you mean is the application lock. click here----> OTA for instruction on how to application unlock your phone.
Guest pikotech Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 Yeah, having just read that I noticed I didn't have my SIM card in the phone - Idiot = Me! Still having the same problem, however sometimes it even crashes (as described above) while booting up too which is quite a problem also. Any ideas?
Guest pikotech Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 Just started to reinstall the 1.6 update (couldn't do any harm right)? Unfortunately the phone crashed after a couple of minutes during the process. Now each time I try to run the update it fails. Giving me the following message: "ERROR 113 UPDATE ERROR" Then goes back to the Canary bootloader. I'm beginning to think the phone is well and truly dead from old age now.
Guest pikotech Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 UPDATE: Well... I eventually reinstalled the 1.6 update. Still having the same problem :-( Must be a hardware error surely? Ideas anyone?
Guest pikotech Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 This is getting weirder and weirder.... While in the cradle, the phone will hardly ever switch on (i.e. it usually dies within the first 1 or 2 seconds of being switch on while still booting). When out of the cradle it will boot up 50% of the time and work fine, HOWEVER I did just notice upon sending a victory SMS to a friend, it died when the "Sent" screen appeared. Sent another and it works fine... Received an SMS reply which was fine... Received another SMS reply and it crashed. I've also noticed, after each time a switch the phone on again after a crash all the default settings come back (original orange contacts, homepage, etc). Something seems to be very wrong with this phone :?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 Just wondering if the internal battery is dead or dying as is would be two years ond now :? If that is removed then the phone will revert back to it's factory settings that I do know. I have not tried the phone without that battery before so it's only a guess for the actual problem.
Guest pikotech Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 Ah har, I guess that could make sense, Have there ever been successful replacements made of the internal battery do we know? Thanks for your help,
Guest pikotech Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 Hmmm, just seems like it was the crashes that were stopping the changes from being saved I guess (needed to restart properly). I must admit since reinstalling the 1.6 update, things are a lot more stable - I can switch the phone on now! But getting crashes upon receiving the odd SMS (which then causes me to lose them) is rather annoying. Since it is more stable after the 1.6 reinstall it leaves me even more confused. Is this a software or hardware problem. The plot thickens...
