Guest nobznss Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 Hey all. I just got a 5600 and I need to sign up with a carrier to get a sim. What I was planning on doing once I got the phone was going down to Cingular and getting an ATT sim card to use. Basically use an AT&T account. They told me however that they're not activating AT&T phones any longer and that it has to be a cingular phone inorder to use it on a new account. Is this true? Are they not creating any new AT&T accounts? Am I going to have to pay to get the phone unlocked? Thanks for your help in advance.
Guest jleecong Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 I would suggest purchasing a phone with a contract making the phone free and then selling the phone on eBay. This will get you your sim and contract (with your desired carrier) and help to make back some of the cost for your 5600 and unlocking (if you choose a carrier other than AT&T) There are many websites that have phones. Buy.com & Amazon.com just for some big names.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted December 23, 2004 Report Posted December 23, 2004 They are not allowed to tell you that you can get the phone unlocked. I started a new Cingular Contract with an UNLOCKED SMT5600 and all is well.

Guest ddocta Posted December 28, 2004 Report Posted December 28, 2004 I am pretty sure AT&T won't sell you an account, only a Cingular one. I am not even sure they will sell you a SMT 5600 unless you already have an AT&T account. At this point, I think your going to have to unlock your phone.
