How to remove... program icons?

I would like to remove some of the program-icons/items because the list is getting much too long. I'm not using Internet Explorer,camera,MSN and some more. Are they shortcuts to the progs and stored somewhere or do you have to remove the whole program? Or is it possible to rearrange the list so the programmes that you use the most are om top of the list?
