SMS reading and input problem

Hi there,

Does anybody get the same SMS reading problem as me? When there's any new line in an SMS, it shows up as a rectangle instead... Is there a problem with some encoding?? For example the following text:

Hello

Hello

Hello

will come up as Hello[]Hello[][]Hello instead ([] is a rectangle!). 2 lines = 2 rectanges, 1 line = 1 rectange. Any idea how to fix this?

Also, i'm using a QTEK7070 ROM and i think there's somethin wrong wid da t9engine cuz wen i wanna type "hello", by typing 43556, "hellm" comes up instead and wen i scroll through the other available words, there's none! :-s I haven't messed around with the registry settings though.. If the problem was only some words then it's alright cuz t9 can learn anyway rite? but this is like woh.. nearly every word i use?? :-p so it's pretty annoying..hehe.. so if anyone can help me plz do..

THANX ALOT!

PS: Phone = Orange SPV SmartPhone 2002 QTEK7070 ROM

The only time I have seen this is when someone tries to send one of the

old joke type pictures from a nokia.

As for T9 if you last used hellm by mistake it will try to use that again.

Please try not to post in sms speech as we have members who do not have English as a first langage and so it can be confusing.

Yeah that's right. These are the messages that contain text-based picture (if you know what I mean) and jokes or phrases for you to scroll down and read it, one word a line or somethin like dat. So what did you do to fix the problem?

For T9, i haven't used hellm. Everytime i get a "silly word" like hellm, i just delete the word and switch to "abc" to type it in properly. After T9 has (hopefully) learned the words, when I press 43556 for hello, hellm will come up first then I hav to scroll to get to my intended "hello". Even worse, "morning" or "afternoon" or "elephant" or "myself", none of these are in the dictionary! :-s When i press 44 for hi, i get "ii" first. What is "ii"?? Next available word "ig", then "hi". After I've used "hi", i press 44 again, and still, "ii" is shown first.

Sorry bout english SMS speeches. Just wanna give an example. Next time i'll use numbers or symbols instead. ;-)

The main proplem is that you are not using an English rom so T9 will not be as good as the Orange one.

Good example of this is the hacked 2003 ROM for the MPX200, that is really bad.

hmmm... probably that's the problem.. maybe i should go back to orange 1.5.0.3 :-p

What about the rectangle symbol instead of the new line though? strange rite? Oh i forgot to tell u guys one thing.. wen i use SMS2Mail to convert my SMS to Mail so i can sync with my computer, the format of the SMS seems to be untouched.. i.e. there are no rectangles instead of new lines, the SMS comes up correctly... Maybe its the encoding of text on the smartphone? Can we change this? hmm... interesting..

Just a curiousity.. I heard there's an Orange 1.6 ROM. How does that compare with Orange 1.5.0.3? I heard that 1.6 fixes problems with GPRS and exploring the internet but it's slower. I have no problem unlocking the application lock or the sim lock. Can anybody give me info on this one?

Thanx alot.

No fix for the rectangles as far as I'm aware.

There is an Orange update with one intermittant bug I reported but was ignored during the testing phase :)

If you lose a signal the phone will not re-estabish a connectino unless the phone is rebooted, but this is intermittant.

The 1.6 update can be found here

Thanx again awarner but i'm not quite sure which ROM are you talking about that has the problem not re-establishing a connection when the signal is lost.

I just had a thought… Isn’t t9 supposed to be a predefined system? I mean, the manufacturer buys the complete t9 system and loads it into their phones. I just though of this because I noticed that most of the phones I used that have t9, always have the same words and same word order. For example I can remember by heart that if you press 3445, intended for “dont” you would have to scroll to the 3rd word of the available words. And that’s the same for every phone I’ve used. So isn’t t9 supposed to be all the same for all phones? If yes then why QTEK7070’s t9 is different?

Thanks.

The Rom I am talking about is the one in my link the 1.6

As I said the Qtek is not an English ROM so the T9 will not be as good

as the Orange one which is English.

oh so t9 is not a pre-defined system... T_T or maybe QTEK didn't bother to buy the original t9 english dictionary and put it in their ROM.. :-p

Well.. dats bad for 1.6... cuz i'm usin a new service provider so da signal is not dat good... :-s

thanx again awarner! :-D
