How to disable cleartype in Smartphone 2003 SE

Using Smartione is OK with smartphone 2002 but not for 2003 SE. Any one know how to disale cleartype in Smartphone 2003 SE for faster screen?

not sure if it makes anything faster, but you can disable cleartype by visiting http://www.customcabbage.co.uk/ from your phone then selecting the approprate options

I think that customcabbage thingy is for 2002 not 2003. But, my with SP3i I am never waiting for screens to come up? The only time I have a delay is with games.

How do you actually disable it? If you select the ClearType option, it includes a registry value called "ClearType" and it sets it to 1. If you don't check the ClearType box, it doesn't include anything about ClearType.

I want to remove the ClearType registry key, but the area is protected and I had no success.

Are you referring to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Internet Settings\ > Values > ClearType Text ?

I can change the value data to 1 with no problem (default = 0).

No, I want to delete "HKLM\System\GDI\ClearType", which is responsible for ClearType in all aplications. It is set on by default in the iMate SP3 ROM and I can't remove it.

Knowing the exact registry path, perhaps you can compile a CAB file which will set the value to 0 instead of 1.

Did that already, but setting it to 0 does not disable ClearType :roll:

According to Microsoft, the "Quality" value under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GDI\ClearType" "Enables ClearType for all applications. A non-zero value enables ClearType across the OS.". I have set it to 0 with a cab file and restarted the phone, but no success.

How can I delete it if it is in a protected registry area?

What about that french Smartione app? I got the link to it from one of the forums and it let me change the cleartype settings. Can't remember where the link is though. Somewhere on here....

Ive looked for it all night long - it seems that all the links, including the ones on their forum, are dead. There must have been something fishy about that software :shock: if they pulled out completely.

Hmmm...just downloaded in a couple of weeks ago however I had to register on their web site. Did you try that?
