Guest Zeb Posted December 26, 2004 Report Posted December 26, 2004 Hey, *Posted this on another forum but thought I'd get better answers here. Sorry if this is the wrong sub-forum to put it in. I'm new here and this post covers so many aspects I didn't know which to post in. If the admin could please move it if in the wrong place. Thanks. I might add more questions as and when I read stuff.* First off - Sorry for starting another SPV C500 thread! There seem to be LOADS at the moment. Anyway I havn't got the phone yet... I'm getting it on Thursday. Have to wait for the place I ordered the contract from to open and then the post and stuff. In any case I want to be ready anyway - Be sure what I want to do to it and what I want to install. Anyway - Got a few small things to ask and sort it - I'll probably add to this as I find stuff out and hopefully this thread will also prove to be useful to anybody else who recently bought/got given this phone for Christmas. First off - What are the "essential" applications and games for this device? (Both PC and Phone side). What are the best websites for SPV C500 resources? Most importantly - Downloads! What software do you recommend to encode films/movies in? And what software is required, for the phone, to view it? Can you buy cases (Preferably the "skin" variety but any if not)? If so, where from? And are there any cheap keyboards for it? Also interested to hear any other information that people think is important to know for the first time user - Anything to look out for when installing to the PC or anything? Any settings or anything? (My dads LG phone was a nightmare installing to the PC - Never got it working - So hoping this is a little easier!). Basically - Any information, particularly about the points above, is really appriciated - As I said, I'd like to be clued up ready for the phones arrival... Looking forward to getting it set up and being able to have a play! Many Thanks! Dan.
Guest Disco Stu Posted December 26, 2004 Report Posted December 26, 2004 Welcome to the forum :) While you're waiting I'm going to point you towards the FAQ section, particularly the 'First 48 Hours with a Smartphone' thread.
Guest john.-h Posted December 28, 2004 Report Posted December 28, 2004 just keep reading on the forum. go on the orange website and download the manual for the phone so you can read it before you get yours, the work out off the forums want you want to do then check it all. the most important thing i found is make sure you sync the phone so if you screw up or do something that effects the perfomance and you cannot alter you can always hard reset th ephone and all your contacts are saved. i have ny folder on the laptop will all my stuff i download etc and when i have my stuff that is on the phone that i want to keep i put it in my phone folder so if i do a reset my ringtones and programs are all there so its pretty straight forward to put back to how i want it..

Hey, Thanks for the replies guys! I've checked out the FAQ's - Helpful on quite alot of bits! And thanks john for the tip - I'll certainly do that... Might take a moment but saves in the longrun having to keep putting those names back on! If anybody else has any opinions, etc, that'd be great :) Especially on what you consider essential (and the best!) apps and games that work on the SPV C500. Many Thanks! Dan.
Guest DSF Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 Hello For Video playback on your phone you can try Betaplayer, it's free and very good And if you want to send files via bluetooth and receive via infrared you can get Smart Explorer (not free, trial) If you want to enable copy & paste text function you can get xBar. Also with this app you can swith easily bettween opened apps. But unfurtonately you have to buy if you want to use it. However xBar version 1.0 is free, try to get it from airfagev (utilities section) Some sites with resources: - http://www.coolsmartphone.com - http://www.smartphonethoughts.com - http://www.airfagev.com/downloads.asp - http://www.aivanet.com - http://www.clickgamer.com - http://www.all-locations.com
Guest Zeb Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 Hey, Thanks for the reply. Was browsing a few sites looking at software and on Handango I found some virus protection software. Do these phones really need virus scanners? It all seemed a bit gimmicky to me! A virus scanner on my phone! But if it is necessary and I need one then... So, whats up with that? I need a virus scanner or nah? Many Thanks.
Guest Disco Stu Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 Since there are (as yet) no known viruses aimed at Windows Smartphones then you don't really need anti-virus software. Some would say that you would be protected if one turns up but I think most people are happy to do without for the time being.
Guest Confucious Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 But the antivirus software is a good way of slowing your phone down :) Totally unnecessary IMHO
