Guest Koelie Posted December 27, 2004 Report Posted December 27, 2004 Hi, I finally figured out how to use active sync 3.7.1 via bluetooth to synch my C500 with Outlook. Two things I am still wondering about though: - Isn't there another way to connect active sync and the phone to eachother, than by digging three menus deep and choose "connect via Bluetooth"? It would be great, if my PC would pop up a window, that the phone is near and asks me if I want to connect... Even better would be a full automated connection and synch, without having to connect manually.. Isn't there a utility or program for this? - Once I establish a bluetooth connection, it starts synchronising, but afterwards, the C500 stays connected all the time. The STOP button in the active sync program is grey and all menu-items in the Active Sync menu on the C500 are grey as well. So the only way to disconnect the phone is by completely turning off the bluetooth device on either the PC or C500. Isn't there a way to let it synch and automatically disconnect thereafter? I have another (little bit off topic) question, but maybe someone knows the answer to it anyway: I installed my Bluetooth USB device on WinXP SP2. I did that thing with updating the driver to change from Microsoft driver to Generic chipset driver. Afterwards there is only one device mentioned under bluetooth in device manager. But I keep getting two bluetooth icons in my sys tray after start up of windows. When I checked in msconfig, there are two startup items, one Common Startup and one Startup. But if I delete one of them, the other one is automatically turned off as well. What's the use of two icons in the sys tray with exactly the same menu items and functions? And is there a way to delete one of them to save system memory? Michael
Guest furby Posted December 28, 2004 Report Posted December 28, 2004 BT Autosync Don't seen why it really matters that it stays connected after syncing, you could just turn bluetooth off and it'd disconnect (or walk 10m away :) ) If you right click it, "Remove Bluetooth Icon" ? Maybe something just didn't quite clear from the registry. Is there anything in Add/Remove programs that could be lurking? too tired to do more thinking, hope this helps
Guest Koelie Posted December 28, 2004 Report Posted December 28, 2004 Thanks for doing some thinking anyway despite the hour :-) No you are right, actually it doesn't matter that it stays connected. It just bothers me sometimes that menu structure and design of the C500 are a bit strange. It seems so logical if you add a function "connect via BT", that you also add a "disconnect" i.s.o. greying out all menu items... The problem isn't the phone though, but Active sync. Because it stays green to sync, it also keeps Outlook locked open in the sys tray, using up resources. You can't close Outlook if active sync is connected or active. Turning off BT or walking 10 m. away just isn't a very neat solution. So I thought, maybe I am overlooking something... If I rightclick on the BT icons in the sys tray, there is no such thing as "remove icon...". The strange thing is, that sometimes when I boot up my PC, there appear two icons, sometimes only one... In My COmputer/Device Manager/BLuetooth Devices, there is only one item listed: The Sitecom USB BT Device. The Microsoft device, which was there first due to the WInXP SP2 issue is gone. In the COntrol Panel, there are two BT related items: Bluetooth Devices and Bluetooth COnfiguration The last one is actually the config. screen of Sitecom's USB dongle. The first one however is (I believe) Microsoft related. THis one actually has a checkbox to turn the systray icon on or off. It is off and when I turn it on, an additional, third icon appears in the sys tray. In Add/Remove Programs, Sitecoms BT DOngle appears just once. Furthermore there is only one "my bluetooth places" icon on my desktop. I only installed the dongle once so I doubt if it is caused by double regedit items. The two icons are completely similar in size, color, menu and both turn green when a device connects. I used to have a different BT Dongle (USB) on another PC and it actually had the same problem... Guest chucky.egg Posted December 28, 2004 Report Posted December 28, 2004 Two apps that might help you... BTAutoSync which will automatically connect your phone and pc if they are in range, and will then sync. Adjustable frequency to stop it eating your battery too. Bluetooth Toggle is what i use to save battery and to disconnect. There's a free app here somewhere, or you can buy one on Handango. Assign it to a speed dial and it's quick and easy Cant help much with the Bluetooth icon. I had the Same symptoms and had to uninstall and reinstall to get rid me it. Posted from my SmartPhone!

Guest Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 hi...I had a quick look for the Bluetooth Toggle and the one that I found on whizoo.com only seems to work for Palm related devices. Did you have a another "Bluetooth Toggle" in mind :?: Great app finds btw :)
Guest Confucious Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 BT toggle http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=99493&hl= The reason you have two BT Icons is veacause you have installed the BT Stack that came with your BT Dongle. WinXP SP2 has it's own BT Stack and does not need the BT Stack that came with your dongle. Usually one of the icons is dark blue and the other is light blue, the light blue one being SP2's stack. The "recomended" method is to uninstall the drivers that came with your dongle and just plug the dongle in and it should be recognised by the MS drivers and work. At the moment you are probably leaving yourself open to all sorts of conflicts. If you NEED your proprietory drivers I sugest you disable the MS ones. HTH
