I could realy make big use og some kind of GPS Im driving a lot and iPac + GPS attachment thingie is waaay to expensive for my wallet

It could attach to the SPV like the camera and the software on memory cards. or it could be extra equipment for the comming Car-kit.

Apprently their IS someone working on a GPS kit for the spv, at £100 + maps.

Heres the thread from microsoft's smartphone developer forumn, cant obviously say how reliable this is.

"I am currently developing a GPS reciever for the SPV, we are in final

testing and should have kits available in the new year at around £100+maps.

Feel free to drop me a line: [email protected]"

Super, i wonder if they will be any good for Aviation, Ie point to point route planning and track adjustments. Even if they dont make route planning ill still buy it, its handy to know where you are, getting there is easy after that.

I wouldnt of though it would be hard for someone to make a GPS reciever to attach to the bottom of the phone (like where the camera goes).

Something like this would be absolutley perfect!

For some reason i totally didnt read Dj Hopes post til after i posted the above!

I heard of SD cards with GPS receivers on them. This would be simpler, as the hardware is there, what is needed is software that will run on SPV .... Orange, can you hear this!? Pleeeese ....

Whenever I have been on an aircraft with my SPV they tell you to turn your phone off as it interfers with the navigation equipment. I suppose that with GPS at least you would know where you were :!:

M'afraid they will ask you to turn the GPS off too ... been there. ;)

Gents,

Press the power off quickly; it will bring up a menu. Select radio off and hey presto it turns off the phone (but not the software). Whether you can get this past an Air Hostess, I haven't tried. The explanation is on the orange website under FAQs. Try printing it off and bringing it with you.

An application has been made for the NOKIA, which isnt excactly GPS, but something close.

the program pics up signals from the antennas around you and pin-points your exact location. The cool feature is, that you can then program your phone to act differently around the different antennas. Lets say you are of for work. When the application pics up the signal from the antenna near your work adress, the phone goes into silent mode.

Can you see my point, or is my english that bad.

What I mean is, is there such an application for the SPV ? Is it possible for the phone to "interact" with the antennas around it.

Before getting my SPV I had a feature on wap 'where's my nearest'. This could tell me relatively accurately where my nearest cinema or restaurant was with directions of how to get there. I never told it where I was so it must have known.

Surely it's possible to do a similar thing with the SPV? I know it's not quite GPS but was really handy!

I was stuck in traffic the other day and my friend pulled out his Ericsson which has a neat little feature that tells you if there is a jam in the area, how long queues are etc.

I guess it can tell what mast your signal is hitting the strongest and gives you local area data - so there must be an element to GPRS that can offer the same feature.

I should really read threads more thoroughly.

Brody: The Trafficmaster app sounds cool but a bit limited. What I'm looking for is a GPS/A to Z that cars seem to increasingly feature.
