Guest Arigato Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 Is it possible to save wma or wav files on the storage card and use them as ring tones? And what's about midi files! I wonder how spv plays the midi files containing on the memorie, but if I add a new one there is just a terrible tone.
Guest Trancemaster Posted December 24, 2002 Report Posted December 24, 2002 I don't know about the first thing, but I doubt it. As for midis, the SPV only supports MIDI0 files and they sound s*** anyway, don't bother.
Guest Arigato Posted December 24, 2002 Report Posted December 24, 2002 midi0 what the hell is that? I've never heard of it! of course it sounds s*** but i thought that midi, the better one will be able to play on spv.
Guest HelloDave Posted December 24, 2002 Report Posted December 24, 2002 There are 3 different types of MIDI files 0, 1 and 2. 1 is the most common format you'll find on the 'net and 0 is the one the SPV supports (conveniently!). The difference between them is how the data is stored in the file - 0 stores everything in one track where as format 1 has several tracks; generally one for each instrument in the file. I'm sure about format 2 - never seen it used. You can download format 1 to 0 converters - search the forum for a link. The reason MIDI files sound crap is because the SPV only really supports monophonic MIDIs so polyphonic ones sound disorted at best. This is why all the supplied ringtones are monophonic! It's best not to bother with MIDIs and use wavs instead. As far as I know you can only use wavs as ringtones (either PCM or compressed with the "GSM 6.10" codec at 8KHz) and they must be in the IPSM/Application Data/Sounds folder on the SPV, otherwise you won't be able to find them in the ringtone selection menu. The SPV has to load each ringtone before it plays it, so you'd probably miss every call by the time it'd finished buffering a 3 min wma :D
Guest FlameBoy Posted December 24, 2002 Report Posted December 24, 2002 I think the ringtones have to be in a specific directory on the SPV so storing them on the SD card is not an option.
Guest zenabi Posted December 24, 2002 Report Posted December 24, 2002 About the monophonic thing, I downloaded one of those Xmas tunes from the Orange SPV site (for a laugh) and one of them was polyphonic. I think it was the one called Bethlehem and yes it can be used as a ring tone, in fact it's supposed to be. Go ahead and try it out: http://spv.orange-today.co.uk/sounds/front...tmas+ring+tones
Guest HelloDave Posted December 24, 2002 Report Posted December 24, 2002 The Bethlehem tone isn't polyphonic! Haven't tried the others though.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted December 24, 2002 Report Posted December 24, 2002 Notes are played very close together, rather than being polyphonic I believe! P
Guest janagan Posted December 24, 2002 Report Posted December 24, 2002 What the hell is polyphonic, please Enlighten me the Great 1.
Guest HelloDave Posted December 24, 2002 Report Posted December 24, 2002 All it means is more than one note can be played in a ringtone at the same time, for example - Monophonic (which the SPV supports) - hitting one key on a piano Polyphonic (which the SPV doesn't support, except using wav files) - playing a chord on a piano Think of the ringtones on the Samsung T100 or the new Nokias and you'll know what I mean!
Guest zenabi Posted December 25, 2002 Report Posted December 25, 2002 The Bethlehem tone isn't polyphonic!Notes are played very close together, rather than being polyphonic I believe! I swear it is polyphonic! :D Load up the file in a MIDI editor and you'll see that 2 parts are playing in harmony throughout the song.
Guest Neiko69 Posted December 27, 2002 Report Posted December 27, 2002 Bethlihem is poly. those who say not have too much s*** in their ears.
