Guest sebset Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 Well, this is just a suggestion... MAME, a cool arcade game emulator is out now for the P800. It's possible to play classic games like Pacman, Tetris, Area 51, etc. on the device in emulation. The emulator is available on http://www.yipton.net An impressive list of supported games: http://www.yipton.demon.co.uk/emamep800/la...st/gamelist.txt So why we should wait for an SPV version? Guys! let's go to ask for a smartphone 2002 version of MAME! Hundreds and hundreds of arcade games could be emulated on your smartphone... We should make a massive mailing to www.mame.net to ask them an SPV version!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cu Strikers 1945 III © 1999 Psikyo Cyvern © 1998 Kaneko Daioh © 1993 Athena Desert War © 1995 Jaleco Kid no Hore Hore Daisakusen © 1987 Legion © 1986 Nichibutsu Metal Hawk © 1988 Namco Nostradamus © 1993 Face Sengeki Striker © 1997 Kaneko / Warashi Strikers 1945 © 1995 Psikyo Cruis'n USA © 1994 Midway Alpha Fighter / Head On © 1982 Data etc, etc...
Guest Emad Posted December 24, 2002 Report Posted December 24, 2002 Its not that hard to write emulators for Smartphone 2002 - hell, if I can play gameboy games on my 20Mhz Palm Vx.. I was thinking of porting some apps myself, except for the whole certification issue.. How likely are Orange to certify a system emulator, with all the nice copyright issues that type of thing throws up? The cost of certification wouldn't really be a problem, as this type of thing people would be willing to donate for - its whether or not it would get past the certification process..
Guest adrianfox Posted December 24, 2002 Report Posted December 24, 2002 This raises an interesting question. What are the certification criteria? Can they refuse certification on products that are legally dubious such as emulators? And what about ethical and moral grounds. If someone devloped a game that was racist (just for example), would that be declined too? And another thing, if they certified a product such as this, would it not wipe out much of their potential market. I hear that mobile retro-gaming is one of the growth areas that have been identified.
Guest Emad Posted December 24, 2002 Report Posted December 24, 2002 Mmm, if I can recall correctly, the Sendo Z100 had an Amiga emulator in it?.. Plus O2 are releasing all those old Atari games - good thing about low resolution is that it fits a 160x160 screen :D
