Guest HelloDave Posted January 11, 2003 Report Posted January 11, 2003 by the way the orange card is not really 8 mB as they say .... why? That's 8mb unformatted - the file system takes up about 1.5mb, leaving you with 6.5mb to use. My 128mb card has 122mb actual space. Another thing is that the manufacturers of SD cards (and other devices such as hard drives) count mega as 1000, not 1024, so their "megabyte" is actually 1000Kb. SD cards are like any other storage devices in that they are sold by their unformatted capacity - a 60Gb hard drive gives you about 57Gb formatted space for the same reason. The only exception, bizarrely, is floppy disks, which are now always pre formatted and sold as 1.44mb capacity, but they are actually 2mb unformatted
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 in terms of hard drives, hasnt the recognised value of a megabyte been set to 1,000,000 bytes, instead of the actual 1,048,576 bytes it should be? which is why they format to smaller values than they are sold at. silly americans, how many 0's in a billion again?
Guest jt3009 Posted January 14, 2003 Report Posted January 14, 2003 can u tell me where to get a 128mb card from and roughly how much to pay please
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 14, 2003 Report Posted January 14, 2003 Plenty of posts out there with websites and prices, try the forum search. Ur looking at about 50 quid with p&p and VAT for a 128meg SD card though
Guest angeleyes Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 hi can anyone help. i've bought a new sd card - but nothing will save onto it. i've put it in and out a few times, and it asked me on one occasion if i wanted the spv to format it - i said yes - then it failed and said it couldn't do it!!! why!!! :?: thanks ;)
Guest HelloDave Posted January 19, 2003 Report Posted January 19, 2003 Is the write protect switch on the card set to off? It should be in the forward postion, pointing towards the contacts on the base of the card.
Guest angeleyes Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 yeah it's switched so i can write to the card. strangely enough the card works today - for the first time it allowed photos to be stored on it - i didn't do anything dif to it. :? at least it's working now thanks ;)
Guest yatpeak Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 when I put my card in it didn't ask me if I wanted to format it, must have already been compatible.
Guest rog001 Posted January 22, 2003 Report Posted January 22, 2003  nearly bought a 128Mb SD Card in Dixons other day. Watch out coz they'll charge you £99.
Guest buckie10 Posted January 27, 2003 Report Posted January 27, 2003 I bought 2 256Mb SD cards via eBay from a bloke in NYC for £90 each. Turned up within a week and they do exactly what they say. Tidy.

Guest Carnivor Posted January 28, 2003 Report Posted January 28, 2003 WOO It arrived at Lunchtime, I rate Valueflash on my purchesing experience!!!
Guest matth Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 Me too. I bought a 256 meg SD from Value flash for £67. They delievered it next day. Fantastic! ;)
Guest ajb3000 Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 I can't believe the price difference of the same SD cards from different stores, just compare the likes of Value Flash to your local store, you can save £100+ on the same thing!!!
Guest ashley.flynn Posted February 6, 2003 Report Posted February 6, 2003 to answer the original question see this
Guest Lojt Posted February 6, 2003 Report Posted February 6, 2003 Last time i hard-resetted, the phone said that my SD card would need to be formatted. I had alot on it, so i said no and took the card out. Next time i put it in, it worked fine :|
