Guest tomdbomb61 Posted December 26, 2002 Report Posted December 26, 2002 hey anyone else found this i never seem to ever get above one bar of signal on my spv, and then sumtimes i dotn even have ne but u can make phone calls etc etc as if u have full signal??????? is this a known bug thanks
Guest Simon Desser Posted December 26, 2002 Report Posted December 26, 2002 Yeah this drives me nuts!!! Basically I reckon you can more or less ignore what the indicator tells you. However, someone who got the first update (only available in Switzerland at the mo) reckons that one of the fixes was to recalibrate the signal indicator. Lets hope we get it very soon!
Guest The Futures Bright Posted December 26, 2002 Report Posted December 26, 2002 I alway get 3 bars in the house but when i go out and into line of sight of the transmitter the 4th bar pops on, it seems to be very accurate for me. :D
Guest Trancemaster Posted December 27, 2002 Report Posted December 27, 2002 I have travelled 300 miles over Xmas with my SPV and I never seem to get more than one or two signal bars, it's like having a 3210 all over again.
Guest jacoch Posted December 28, 2002 Report Posted December 28, 2002 First update available in Switzerland seems to fix this bug. As said above, don't pay attention to the indicator til the update.
Guest LiquidFX Posted December 28, 2002 Report Posted December 28, 2002 does anyone know what bugs are addressed in the update?
Guest LiquidFX Posted December 28, 2002 Report Posted December 28, 2002 (appart from the afformentioned)
Guest Cipher Posted January 1, 2003 Report Posted January 1, 2003 its not a bug your just not getting a good signal- mine is setting in front of me and its got 3 bars and i get 4 bars quite often- this phone keeps a signal extremely well :D
Guest budda Posted January 1, 2003 Report Posted January 1, 2003 Compared to the Nokia 3330 sitting next to my SPV the signal strength on the SPV is non existant 99% of the time. The most bars i've had was 2 when I was in town. I truely hope its just an indicator problem and not a naff hardware "fault". Nokias have always been the best handsets in weak signal areas (like Devon!) in my experience...
Guest rammy121 Posted January 1, 2003 Report Posted January 1, 2003 well, here's my sixpence worth...yep, mine shows one or no bars. i was a bit worried about this, since my siemens shows full and the girlfriend's show full, on orange.
Guest elementalist Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 Well, if you believe the bar, I've had better signal from my SPV than my old 6210. I certainly have noticed better clarity in calls. When I was at the most south-westley point of Ireland the other day it had 4 bars! hehe No complaints from me on this point. Oh, one thing I have noticed is that occasionally (like twice in the last month) I have had no reception, so I did the old MS trick of rebooting and all was fixed...
Guest CarlHatton Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 My SPV has very little reception all of the time, my old 6310i had almost full reception in the same places. Sometimes it looses it altogether and never gets it back until I reboot! My nokia never done that. Oh well - got that off my chest, the rest of the phone is fine.
Guest Cipher Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 for all of you complaining about the bar strength- do you actually find that you cannot make the calls you need irrespective of what the bars say, becuase if the can they i suggest you STFU
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 for all of you complaining about the bar strength- do you actually find that you cannot make the calls you need irrespective of what the bars say, becuase if the can they i suggest you STFU  I quite agree. Rather than spending all your time looking at the bars and panicking that you have no signal... here's an idea, make some calls and see if you get any cutouts due to poor signal. Load IE, go to handango and download some files and see if you're GPRS runs really slow due to poor signal. I've personally found that I've never had a bad call due to signal and I always get good speeds on GPRS, even when I was going full speed up the M4 on MSN chat (I wasn't driving). My signal bars are often 1-2 bars but sometimes 3-4 but that is just a little graphic on the screen. The update "fixes" the signal problem. It will not make the actual call/gprs experience better it will only make the signal indicator a little more useful.
Guest yzbob Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 when i got the phone for the first weeks the signal was crap always 1 or no bars then all of a sudden it started working now i always have 2 bars or more but even if i do have 1 or none generally the phone still works i live in london so its not like im in a remote area. think the signals fine and the indicator talks a load of bollocks. but the phone is great.
Guest Zahid Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 My SPV sometimes goes into "searching....." mode when my other Orange phones show full signal strenth. The only way to resolve this is to turn off then on again. Signal strength indicator is usually on one or two in most places. Another problem I have is when trying to use IE I get 'Dialling....' at the top of the screen, but never connects the site. Again, a re-boot is usually required. Any others with similar problems ? Thanks
Guest budda Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 The calls always seem to more "choppy" during low signal areas compared to my Nokia. The SPV just doesn't seem to cut it with basic voice calls without full "2 bar" signal. GPRS never works - no mater how many times Orange flap about sending SIM updates which don't always arrive. Yes the [G] is in the titlebar. So IExplorer was useless too. These handsets appear to be part of a game of Pot Luck with users.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 Signal strength indicator is usually on one or two in most places. Another problem I have is when trying to use IE I get 'Dialling....' at the top of the screen, but never connects the site. Again, a re-boot is usually required. I had this problem for two days went to call Orange got a far as hello and lost my signal !!! then the phone locked up when a friend played on rebound so I removed the battery rebooted and now IE works fine. Can I have an ctrl-alt-del button fitted? :D
Guest Zahid Posted January 6, 2003 Report Posted January 6, 2003 My SPV was an upgrade, and because 28 days are not up the Orange shop where I purchased mine from have agreed to replace it for a new one. I'll let you guys know if this improves things.
Guest Lojt Posted January 7, 2003 Report Posted January 7, 2003 My spv have had a full signal yesterday and today... dont know why as it have never had more than 2 bars before....
Guest Rob.P Posted January 7, 2003 Report Posted January 7, 2003 It's a known bug just have to wait until the update comes out, I find that as long as I have 1 bar voice and data calls are usually alright. Only bugs me when I'm in Wales need to quickly look at my phone to see if I have signal. It seems to be the whole top bar is a bit slow on updating not just the signal strength.
