Whats the best way to transfer programs from the phone onto the SD card? :?

Posted

depends on the program, best option is to remove from phone, then re-install on sd card.

just copying on the pc, MIGHT work, but could cause problems.

Thaks for that...but what if its a program on the Orange add on CD? how would I transfer those programs onto a larger SD? :?

...I think I'll start again! If I want to transfer files from the phone I agree that as Will says I would have to uninstall them and then reinstall to the SD card...the problem is what if they are programs contained on the Oranage add on SD How could I install them on another larger SD.

If they are contained on the Oranage add on SD they are not installed, but merely CAB installation files. So, all you do is copy-paste the installation files to the IPSMWindowsStart MenuAccessories dir and install them from there!

to turn a larger size sd card into the orange card and more, simply copy the /2577 to your pc, then copy it to the storage card, this directory contains the autorun file, and so removing the 'new' card and re-inserting starts the orange install software.

Has anyone actually tried this? You cannot copy the 2577 to another storage card...you get Access is denied. This is a shame because now I no longer have Rebound which although some people don't like, I was actually getting into

I can copy with no problems m8... maybe you're using a guest account in Active Sync? But if you somehow still cannot do it properly, just download the SD pack I linked above, and use that!

:D OK fine now!.....On another note, I have put a new 64mb SD in and gone to SETTINGS>ABOUT and get the following info:

Avail storage=5.46mb

Tot Storage=7.50mb

what gives ?

this is probably sounding really stupid but im just trying to get as much info on this phone as possible so if someone can give me some answers to the following memory based questions it would be much appreicated. :D

What different kinds of memory cards can you use with the SPV? After reading a lot of these forums i get the picture there is more than one sort.

Which is the best type to buy?

How do you get them to work in youre SPV do you simply take the old one out and slide the new one in or is it a bit more complicated?

where can i get a good deal on one and what do people think is the best compromise between cost and size?

Thanks for any help Anyone can offer me.

You can use Secure Digital (SD) cards or Multimedia cards (MMC) - SD is the later incarnation of MMCs but in the context of the SPV they're pretty much identical. SD cards are in theory faster than MMCs but you won't notice the difference on the SPV and I haven't noticed much in it on a seperate card reader either. SD cards also have a built in write protect switch.

There's not much difference - SD cards if you get a choice, provided you don't pay much of a premium for them. SD cards have a higher maximum capacity though - I don't think 256mb MMCs exist, but you can get 512mb SDs (at a price!)

Got it in one :D What some people don't realise is that you have to push the card in to get it to pop out - it doesn't need prising with a screwdriver! (The innuendo there... :( )

Depends what you want really - best deals I've heard of seem to be on Ebay - see other posts for info. I got my 128mb card for £57 from Dabs but don't shop with them - they screwed me around for 3 weeks and it took 3 re-orders before I actually got the card! Plus I could have got it cheaper

As far as size goes bigger is always better (so my female maths teacher once told me!) - the best deals seem to be on 128 or 256mb cards which gives plenty of space for lots of tunes and a few videos. It's depressing now when I realise my phone has more storage space, and probably more computing power than my old 486!

Hope that helped!
