Guest Scoobyroo Posted December 27, 2002 Report Posted December 27, 2002 Hi all I'm sure we are all aware of the feature in the SPV that allows you to start typing a number, and the SPV will slowly narrow down the contacts the more digits you enter (a bit like T9 for numbers I guess) Well, I have noticed that this will not find all of my contacts. For example, I know I have a contact in my SPV with the follwing mobile number: 07976 xxxxxx. When I typing in 0, then 7, then 9... the contacts are gradualy reduced as you would expect, but the contact I am looking for is NOT among them, even though I know he exists? What I have noticed however is that one number for every contact is highlighted in bold (for example if I have a work number, a home number and a mobile number stored against the contact, the home number may be in bold). And it seems that any number in bold is picked up by predict-a-number, whereas the ones that are not.. are not! I'm begining to like my SPV less and less :D... any ideas on a solution? Cheers
Guest Bazz Posted December 27, 2002 Report Posted December 27, 2002 Hmmmm.... yes same problem. It matches names really well, but not numbers. Basically you can set one "current" number for each contact. From the home screen, type their name (as if you are going to dial them), select the name from the list and use left and right on the joypad to select between m (mobile), w (work), h (home)... etc. and that is then remembered as the current number for that contact. Typing in a number only matches with the current number and not all numbers of that contact. Also if you change all 07XXXXXXXXX to +447XXXXXXXXX (so that text messages display properly) then you can never match on the number as there doesn't seem to be a way to type +. I reckon it should match all contact numbers and it should match sequences in a number (e.g. 123 should match 020 7123 4567). And it should ignore spaces. This will slow the phone down and awful lot though which is maybe why it's not been implemented this way. Each contact only has one "file as" name, so it's faily easy and quick to search through those. Oh well. My advice is to search on people's names. Though it does make it a pain if you want to know who's number is 07123 456 789 Barry
Guest HelloDave Posted December 27, 2002 Report Posted December 27, 2002 there doesn't seem to be a way to type +. Hold down the 0 key to get a "+"
Guest cvt Posted December 27, 2002 Report Posted December 27, 2002 i think the reason is that it searches names and the default number only (ie the one in bold). In addition, it only searches from the beginning of the number ONLY.
