windows media files + licences

I can't figure out how to transfer music to my phone, can anyone help?? I've tried searching all the forum info, honest!

dragging them across using explorer it gives a licence error, using windows media player portable device function, nothing appears on the phone at all. In fact the portable device bit reckons the device capacity is 0bytes (it's a 128 card)

What's the easiest way of getting a couple of albums on the phone??

Thanks in advance,

Nathan

I think there's a bug with Windows Media Player - it can't copy directly to the phone as it thinks it's full. Not tried it, but other have complained of the same. Sure the card isn't locked or actually full?

Either way I'd just use Windows Explorer to copy files. Drag and drop doesn't seem to work so you just need to copy and paste the files.

The license error may mean you have copy protection turned on with Windows Media. Don't use it so can't really help, but look around the options and/or help for Windows Media Player. Basically you can attach a license to each file recorded with Windows Media Player, which means only your computer can play that file. As only your computer can play it - the SPV can't. This is to stop music piracy, but really is quite an annoying and useless feature, so turn it off and rerecord your CDs.

Hi Guys,

I'm too expirencing the problem with windows media player :D It tells me there is no room on my device!! I've tried looking through this great forum but been a complete novice when it comes to MP3 files and all the other formats WMV and WMA, I have not been able to get things working.

I read in the 1st reply that the working around for this is to copy and paste the files onto the SPV. This may seem a bit stupid but to where/which files do I do this?

Thanks to all who can help

Windows Media Play picks up sounds/videos stored on the phone in:

Mobile DeviceMy SmartphoneIPSMMy Documents

or, on the SD/MMC card:

Mobile DeviceMy SmartphoneStorage Card

I recomend storing on the Card to save phone memory.

You probably want to create a My Sounds directory if there isn't one already.

Barry,

Thanks for thereply it gave me a starting point. I still have Media player telling me that I have no room on my storage card or my phone!!.

I had a go with the work around by first by copying then by cutting and pasting the wma file using explore but this didn't seem to work, because when I tried to play the file on the SPV I had the following error, "The licence for this fil cannot be found. Use Windows Media Player on your PC to copy the file to your device again" ahh feels like I'm going round in circles. Is there somthing I'm missing? I've been reading about people laoding full albumns onto the SPV but so far I carn't even get one song on it. Please help

Regards

okay m8, here's what i do. i use Audiograbber.v1.81* to convert audio cd's to mp3-files and All.To.WMA.Converter.v1.2* to convert mp3's to 64bit wma-files (perfect format for the head phones especially considering the low size). then just browse to your storage card using the active sync application and drop your wma's onto that.

* no links here, but if you dunno where to get them, pm me for info.

i dunno what you mean about the licence errors?! eh, but i hope this will help you....... (?)

License error is probably something to do with copyrighted, piracy protected tracks. They will only play on ONLY your PC. Media player thus generates an error, to save you from finding out tracks won't play on your phone, coz they are protected.

hmmmm.. I think...

Copy and paste did the trick, also turned off the licence boll#@ks.

job's a goodun, now to find out how to organise the music into albums / playlists

Cheers,

Playlists are easy, they REALLY need a FAQ on this forumn, you can use asx files to make playlists.

 BUT I KNOW HOW TO GET ROUND IT!!

8) Windows meida player can play wma trakes it has copied from a CD and they can be moved around, the BIG problemo here is the license and the smartphone OS getting in the way.

Smartphone requies the wma AND license which is what all you lot are having a balls ache over. Your trying to move the copied wma to the phone. This is the problem, it has to have the license aswel.

You have to re-copy the CD track and put the destination on a very lardge SD card/phone. The tracks are, unfortunatly not compressed and so they are fairly large.

:!: THIS DOES WORK :!:

FAIR WELL AND GOOD LUCK :D

o.k. here's the boxes you need to uncheck (for WMP 7.01)

Tools, options, Player tab: "attempt to automatically acquire licence"

CD audio tab: "Enable personal rights management"

I had the same problem of not being able to drag the music over but I hand no trouble transferring it through WMP, it said "may not fit", but it did, and it worked.

Best thing to do here is to download Windows Media Player 9 Series.

Point your browser at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and scan for updates. Click on the WINDOWS option (As opose to the critical updates option) in the left hand bar and install it from there.

Windows 2000 doesn't have the correct drivers to install to a Pocket PC device, they were previously only available on XP (and a tad unreliable) but the new Media Player has them all bundled in.

You also have the option in 9 Series to turn off the licences and once this is done, you can also drag and drop without worrying about needing the licence file (Which is encrypted and can't be copied manually).
