Bug: Contact name shows incorrectly if same number as other

SYMPTOM:

On a phone with two people (X & Y) in the Contacts with the same number and where X's name begins with a letter earlier in the alphabet that Y's name...

1. Locate Y in Contacts

2. Call them

3. X's name is shown during the call rather than Y's

If I select X in the Contacts and press dial, I want their name displayed not anyone else's, even if that number is stored next to other people's in the address book.

A minor problem. Same happens if you get called by either of them. X's contact details will always show up.

To be honest I'm not too worried about this one. I mean if you are calling out then I'm guessing you know who you are calling. And for calling in the phone is trying it's best.

In these situations it's probably best to put that joint number under a different contact.

IMHO It's not a bug as such. Just how the phone handles number recognition.

If I select their name explicitly from the Contacts list, I expect their name to come up when the call is made. It's really very counter-intuitive for someone else's name to come up.

Shared contacts won't work in my case because only one number is shared - all the other details (address, email, other phone numbers) are different.

I hadn't thought about incoming, but actually what I'd like is for the phone to display all matches. So if Bob and Jane live together and their Home number is the same but they have separate entries in my contacts list, I'd like to see this on the screen:

Bob

Jane

Calling..

i.e. for the phone to show both.

These small touches are to my mind extremely important and although I understand that they may not be high priority I would hope they will be implemented in time as they make the user interface that little bit easier to use and that little bit more friendly.

I posted it as a bug because I believe it is one - I call Y and see X's name.

This is just a small point but if you call Jane and Bob's name shows up would you think it very freaky if Bob answered the phone?

I think to be honest that's *the* point. If I make a call, I want the phone to as accurately as possible represent who I am calling. If I have a couple of entries that use the same number then I want it to show a couple of names so that I know someone else may answer.

If i remember rightly, it doesnt do anything on a nokia - if 2 contacts have same number - it just shows number not name...
