Is the latest UK updates SPVx still fully unlockable ? (just a yes or no, cause if it's yes i know i'll find it here somewhere :))

I read somewhere that when the phone goes into standby it disconnects all connections (GPRS) , that way your MSN connection is gone :/ Is this true ? and can something be done about that ?

I heard some stuff about bad GPRS functionality and even bad simple calling support :/

Does MS PocketPC software work on Smartphone ? (like PocketPC games)

Are there a lot of apps/games for the Smartphone os? (don't seem to find that much :/ (compared to pocketpc))

Oh yeah the Tanager , is it commercionally available "somewhere" in Europe ? or only production samples and stuff ? Cause the design looks neater then the Canary...

Yes, but slightly more difficult due to timing issues - just use the same method. The latest DK update basically closes the hole completely (unless you wanna do some messy un-updates, followed by re-updates, followed by.... welll it's messy).

Don't think it does, you can change the idle time it takes to drop the connection, but if you are using GPRS for anything (including staying connected to MSN) it should keep the connection up. Staying connected to MSN 24/7 is VERY expensive though:

Also if you keylock the phone with the hang up key it kills the connection.

GPRS does seem to be difficult to connect to occasionally. Haven't had problems in a while though. Similarly haven't had problems placing a call in a while. It's like a PC though so it suffers from the same problems (running out of memory, occasional crashes) and sometimes it's best just to switch it off and start it afresh. Although I noticed loads of things wrong at the beginning I find they don't bother me so much now. Yes it's a little buggy, but I've learned to put up with the bugs - shouldn't have to but have done and I hated going back to a Nokia when I had to recently - it just seems so basic!

No. Sometimes PocketPC programs start up, but they don't work fully as the SPV doesn't have a stylus of a big enough screen. It's "fairly" simple for developers to port them though.

Are there a lot of apps/games for the Smartphone os? (don't seem to find that much :/ (compared to pocketpc))
Not a lot at the mo (maybe about 20-40 different apps), but people are working on them. Also there are Emulators for the NES and Gameboy so that gives you a load of games to start with.

Oh yeah the Tanager , is it commercionally available "somewhere" in Europe ? or only production samples and stuff ? Cause the design looks neater then the Canary...

Not yet I don't think. Launching in Germany soon.

Correct me if I'm wrong anyone?

Hmm :) thx for all the answers ;) I forgot some :D

Is the SPV from Orange Sim Locked ? Or is it just euh "application" locked ? or Both ? and can the simlock be undone ?

Some other comments i heard is that it's "slow" to work with, for instance Nokia's i think are "fast" like when you want to create an sms , with nokia you can get their pretty fast (menu's on nokia's work fast imho), is the SPV slow in that sense ? And with a nokia, when you want to dial someone it's phonebook works very well...

Bazz do you have have a SVP ? or SVPx ? if you have a SVP , aren't the buttons too small ? looking at the pictures they look to be quite unhandy... And do you remember what you payed for your model ?

Btw, currently i'm using a Nokia 3510i , but i love the fact the svp has Windows (believe it or not i'm a big Windows fan (Pc technician)) , and having the ability to use MSN... Awesome...

SIM locked unfortunately: see here for details on how to remove it: http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=3976

It isnt that "slow" really... 3 keypresses to "new sms".

Tanagers aren't commercially available, but the keypad on the SPV is fine once you get used to it :)

Both. Think you can undo both using advice/progs on this site. Haven't tried to SIM unlock since I've always been with Orange.

The default settings are AWFUL. Mess about fixing key timeout and stuff and it's zooms along.

The phonebook on the SPV kicks ass! It's based on T9 so to type Bazz just type 2299, it'll usually have found it after a couple of presses. Then you can either press the call key to ring them or press left or right to choose to SMS/E-mail/Ring a different number... etc.

Typing an SMS or e-mail used to freeze, but I haven't noticed that happening since the update.

SVP. The buttons aren't great, but again you get used to them. The SPVx buttons look better and the screen supposed to be a lot better.

If you just want a phone then don't do it, but if you want all the extras and are willing to be flexible and put up with a couple of niggles then I can't recommend it enough.

:) Don't get me wrong, i love the "concept" of this phone, i just wanna check some things because often i got dissapointed in a product because i "hyped" it in my head ;) (if you know what i mean)

reading that the SVPx having a better display is really killing me :D I want to wait for that one but it's still some months away :/ damn damn :(

I read i could get the first svp for 250 euro , that seems very cheap to me, or isn't it ? is that the regular price...

And do you guys think i should wait for the svpx ? (i know you guys can"t decide in my place, but what would you do ?)

Most people bought it on a plan, so they got theirs for 0/100pounds, I'm not too sure but I don't think 250euros is too bad, better check with a European owner first though.

Also, on the point of PPC games working on the SPV, the occasional one works, but not the majority of them, so I suggest that you don't count on any of them working, and then if they do, it's just an added bonus.
