My phone is stuck in either headset or speakerphone profile. How do you get out of this dumb bug?! Restarting the handset, removing the battery for 20 seconds, has made no difference to the damn setting. I just want to get it back to "Normal" :-(

A few of us on this forum have had this problem and the only real soltuion is to phone orange for a replacement!

It happened to me after I used a 2.5-3.5mm jack adaptor from Maplin, so don't buy one if you're thinking of getting one! (also it only supported one channel, I couldn't find a stereo one at the the shop).

One temporary fix you could try is to wiggle the headphone plug in the jack and see if the Normal profile comes on. This worked for me:

- Insert the plug about half-way into the jack and push up until the profile changes to Normal automatically.

- Still pushing up on the plug, change your profile on the SPV to something else like Silent.

- Now you can remove the plug and change the profiles as normal.

Note: Once you plug the headset in, the phone will be stuck on Headset profile again and you'll have to repeat the above procedure.

Thanks for the reply. I can get it to alternate between Speakerphone and Headset now - sometimes.

It has however put the final nail in the coffin. I'm packaging it all back up and sending it off back to The Link on saturday. :D

I've had the same problem too! After three unsuccesfull calls to orange who, quite frankly, were no help. "someone will ring you back in 24 to 72 hours". Yeah, thanks(!) 72hrs later still no call so i ring them back, same story. It's now friday and i rang them on monday and my 28 day return ran out yesterday. However, i was getting really frustrated with it so i switched it off and back on (nothing i hadn't tried before) but this time i frantically plugged and unplugged the headset, et voila! back to normal! I also noticed that as i was doing this the clock struck midnight, so maybe there is some sort of cinderella type thing involved here!?!

Mine was stuck in headset earlier. I plugged in the headphones, unplugged them again and it went to normal.

Since I got my replacement handset i've not had this problem again (touch wood).

However I would now like to know exactly how do you get the phone in to "speakerphone" mode ?? The profile doesn't appear to be selectable. Does the handset need to have some in-car thing setup for it to operate in that mode under normal circumstances (ie not a f**ked up handset).

Press and hold the Start Call button, and it will switch, press and hold again to change back to normal phone mode. Another "omission" from the manual.

Also there is a forum search option as well that would have thrown up plenty of threads with an answer to this

I upgraded my Nokia 7110 for the SPV last Friday, and sure enough, shortly after plugging in the headset it developed an overpowering preference for either car (when plugged into the docking bay) or headset (all other times) profiles. I have to say a big thanks to contributors to this thread for demonstrating promptly that I wasnt going mad and it was the phone at fault.

Anyway I took a trip to the local Orange shop to have a whinge at them, spelled out to the assistant what the problem was and that several others on a forum have had the same thing. One quick call to their help desk and it appears its now classed as a known problem - one solution involves a SIM update, with the other requiring a replacement handset. Mine needed a new handset. So this was Monday, and today (Tuesday) I received my replacement and all is well. As an aside the woman I spoke to told me to return the handset, battery and charger, and I'd receive the same replacement items - I was well chuffed when I sent those back and got a full box kit in return - lots of spares now ;)

AAAAAAARRRGGGGGGHHHHHH. I have been persevering with the Headset Profile problem now and it has now got too bad to take. I have even had to resort back to my T68 (which I now hate after having the SPV for over a couple of months).

Is there any permenant fix anyone knows of? Orange are not being too forthcoming although I am sure we will get there in the end.

The fault now happens every time I get an incoming call, the phone changes to headset regardless of whether it is present or not. Even after fiddling around and getting it back to 'Normal' it will change back to headset. It even does it mid call on outgoing calls. I am assuming SPV is kippered. I have tried hard reset, using default IPSM etc etc so I guess it is hardware?? No-one else getting these problems any more?

Rant over!

A bit of an odd one this but changing the Home Screen in Settings to one of the orignal Orange layouts has always set the profile back to Normal on my phone and subsequently allowed me to change the profile through the normal options again.

yy4me - one post, but a brilliant one. You just saved my phone from being kicked around - the profile is changable again, thank you!

Cheers, Lutz

Mine had the same problem - locking in headset-mode. After installing the Danish patch, however, it worked fine again... so, either the problem is now gone entirely, or it can be fixed by reinstalling...

I just had this problem when using the official Orange headset that comes with the phone!

Zenabi's jack half out and wiggle trick worked. Think I'll get a replacement handset though.

Nice one Lutzh. It appears that changing the home screen is the best way of correcting the problem.

Has anyone found that this has reoccured on a replacement handset?

My C500 was stuck in the Speakerphone profile. I deleted all files from StorageApplication DataProfiles, then rebooted, and it was OK again. Had to change the profiles back to how they were before of course.
