Guest Goutetsuu Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 tried to set up the pop3 setting on the phone to get my emails downloaded. i followed the setting procedure, but everytime i try to log on and put my password in, the phone just returns to the same log in screen. do i need to do any thing else? i left the domain blank, as i wasn't sure what should go in there, does anything need to go in that field?
Guest terminater2_uk Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 got exactly the same problem with lycos mail. i just assumed it was cos i was using wap and not gprs
Guest abamara Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 I believe this is because yahoo and lycos are webmail as opposed to pop. I may be wrong but I think there's a thread somewhere with this! Sorry can't be of more help.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Yahoo has pop3 access, i believe their pop servers require authentication now though.... Inbox > Menu > Options > Sending > Check "server requires authentication"
Guest abamara Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Thanks Monolithix! Wasn't quite sure about that!
Guest Goutetsuu Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 I'll try the authentication, thanks Mono
Guest benjymous Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Yeah, yahoo does need authentication (but that only applies to outgoing email through yahoo's smtp server - you can still use the orange smtp server for outgoing mail, so that shouldn't be a problem anyway) Yahoo used to be my main pop3 mail account until they started charging for pop3 access (though their site is a bit unclear on it) so it could be refusing you access because you have a free account
Guest Goutetsuu Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 oh damn it. so that means no yahoo access or hotmail, this is getting crap, even when i use the internet on the phone i can't get into my hotmail account for some reason, this is so crap!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Yahoo pop3 access is still free if you activated it before they start charging  I currently have about 1.5k messages in an Outlook folder recieved by my yahoo address since Jan 1st this year... Goutetsuu: tried http://mobile.msn.com/pocketpc/ ?
Guest terminater2_uk Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 anyone tell me what the pop settings are for yahoo?
Guest Goutetsuu Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 thanks again mono....the settings for the Yahoo pop3 are: Email address: *******@yahoo.com Server type: pop3 Incoming mail server: pop.mail.yahoo.com Outgoing mail server: smtp.orange.net Network: The Internet Username: *Your ID* Password: ******* Domain: Not sure, but i think its 'www.yahoo.com', leave it blank if you are not sure
Guest sb Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 I have had my yahoo.com account for years and they still charged me for the pop service! pop settings are pop.mail.yahoo.com smtp.mail.yahoo.com id is your email address without the "@yahoo.com" outgoing mail needs authentication...whatever that is!
