Guest ray Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 Until someone comes out with a decent reader, a mickey mouse workaround is to store the text/ebook whatever in the notes of a pseudo contact. I've stored 1100 words / 6500 chars which can be read/scrolled by going to the contact and selecting the notes. Not sure what the limit is but if it can do 1100 I'm sure it can do a lot more. Useful for other stuff such as logins etc. but not as secure as a proper application. Drawbacks: Memory on the SPV If you are half way through a large piece of text and you need to get at another contact, you're stuffed. Font size is largish. Currently waiting on a signed version of Smartphone Reader Plus which looks excellent. Beware - bought it from http://mobile.handango.com/orange/Platform...og=110&posit=20 and it is not signed. mobiledynamo.com assures me that Orange supplied unsigned files to Handango by mistake and this will be rectified in the next day or so.
Guest mashkhan Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 Surely an easier way would be to save the text file as a .htm and use Internet Explorer to read the file?
Guest ray Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 You're right. A 'hidden' contact entry may still be useful for saving semi-sensitive static data if you don't want to use something like Code Wallet.
Guest RMWD Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 Code wallet has a notes folder to which you can add notes with headers. It can be installed on the storage card and is actually useful and not so clunky. html is fine for reading files but how can you write one on the SPV?
Guest ray Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 Can you sync everything in Code Wallet to your PC and amend the data? I've been using an app. on my PC for a couple of years called Personal Passworder which is great for sensitive data and notes - but it can't sync with the SPV. Would really like something that will work on both.
Guest frankwilliams Posted January 10, 2003 Report Posted January 10, 2003 with all locations you can read the content of XML files on your SPV; if only you made one full of all those things you had to remember instead of files full of "real xml" for purple and yellow browser borders? :D
Guest yatpeak Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 Since Microsoft designed the OS, you'd think Pocket Word would be adapted for it by now.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 Developers are put off by certification...
Guest DJHope Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 I herd from somewere that the update MIGHT include a pocket excel pocket word viewer, could be complete b*llox tho.
Guest ray Posted January 21, 2003 Report Posted January 21, 2003 Re. my original post Currently waiting on a signed version of Smartphone Reader Plus which looks excellent. Beware - bought it from http://mobile.handango.com/orange/Platform...og=110&posit=20 and it is not signed. mobiledynamo.com assures me that Orange supplied unsigned files to Handango by mistake and this will be rectified in the next day or so. The contents of URL above has now changed. Originally Handango had a third page containing details of Resco photo album and Speed Reader Plus on this page but they have now been removed as they were not certified for the SPV. While they were still listed I bought Speed Reader Plus, which did not work on the blocked SPV. I subsequently got a refund from Handango, whom I must admit were very efficient. In the meantime, guess what? I unlocked the SPV as per the instructions in the forum and tried the CAB again that had been sent to me. It worked but was limited in that I could not copy new documents / books across to the SPV. I has 3 short stories but there are only so many times you can read a story! I have asked mobile.dynamo.com if I can re-buy it even if it is not certified for the SPV and am currently awaiting a reply. I must admit Speed Reader Plus is brilliant. Within an hour I was reading text at 500wpm whereas normally I am a slow reader. I could also understand a lot of what was said at 700 words per minute. This is the one 'serious' application that I think is worth buying for the SPV.
