Guest DJHope Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 Has anyone tried this to edit the registry of smartphone? Saw it on the net but in order to download it you have to download a huge SDK not doing that on 64k/sec!
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 Wanna post the URL for that "Huge" SDK... I have ADSL at home so will have a play tonight.
Guest daveng Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 You can't edit the registry "inside" the phone with the SDK. The SDK comes with an Smartphone emulator and you can play with the registry of the emulator.
Guest DJHope Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 Nah mate im not talking about that! "REMOTE" being the operative word here, the Wince registry editior uses activesync to talk to the device and the program is run on your desktop NOT the phone. The file is called Windows CE Remote Registry Editor tool (ceregedt.exe) The link for the SDK download is (i think): http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/device/e...ed/prodinfo.asp The guide for embedded visual tools is: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default....c_guide01_2.asp
Guest daveng Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 Ok, my bad then... I though you were talking about the Smartphone Registry. Though, there is an editor but it's not Orange certified, you can find it there : http://www.phm.lu/products/Smartphone/RegEdit/ For the Smartphone SDK : http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/defaul...ompositedoc.xml sorry for the long URL...
Guest DJHope Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 Sorry nah i editied above. What i was after was to see if someone had tried the windows ce remote registry editior to edit the smartphone regsitry since we cant run any other registry editior because its not certified..
Guest sangfroid Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 The remote registry editor supplied with Embedded Visual C++ doesn't work with the SPV because it needs to copy some support files to the device first and of course these are not certified by Orange.
Guest DJHope Posted January 3, 2003 Report Posted January 3, 2003 :( pah that kills my theory, thought that might have been a way to edit the registry! Thanks for trying tho! :D
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 3, 2003 Report Posted January 3, 2003 Hey, I was wondering... If you knew what you wanted to tweak in the registry could you write in in a .reg text file on the pc and run this file on the phone just like you would for importing registry keys on a PC?
Guest rcraswell Posted January 3, 2003 Report Posted January 3, 2003 Nope. The only reason that works on the desktop is that there is a file association between .reg files and regedit.exe. No such association (or program) exist on the Smartphone. --ron
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 5, 2003 Report Posted January 5, 2003 It's a shame really, cos the Smartphone 2002 SDK contains a lot of tools that are interesting to play with, but no use whatsoever on a locked SPV! Bah! :D P
Guest nytehawk2002 Posted November 4, 2003 Report Posted November 4, 2003 It works fine. I was just talking about it in another forum. I have it working using Active Sync 3.7.1 and an Orange SPV with the 1.5 firmware from Switzerland. I am able to connect to my phone and do my reg hacks from my PC.
Guest Richie M Posted November 4, 2003 Report Posted November 4, 2003 :) dude you are replying to a post from January :( things have come a long way since then  1) the original version of Remote RegEdit didnt write the registry correctly (this was fixed with the SDK update) 2) most people use PHM Reg Editor on the phone :D a lot easier.
