Anyone else lost SMS messages?

I left my phone on battery from about 4am this morning, and when I looked at it at about 4 this afternoon (it hadn't been touched in between) it had turned itself off and wouldn't turn on. When I plugged it into the charger the power meter in All explorer showed 7%, so I was quite surprised the battery had died in that time with no use of the phone - normally it does better than that! What was weirder was that I got a call from a friend a few minutes ago asking me why I hadn't replied to his 2 SMSs today, which he'd got delivery reports for, but they definately weren't in my Inbox. I sent a text to myself after that and got it no problem so I can only assume the SPV recieved the messages and lost them when it turned itself off, but all my old read messages are still in the inbox (and other folders). This is very annoying - how many other SMSs might I have lost!

Anyone else had this problem - don't suppose anyone knows a method to find the messages?! They're not on my SIM either :D

Yeah, had a similar problem today. I called someone at about midday and when I hung up my phone told me I had 2 new SMSs. When I checked my Inbox the messages were sent at 11.05 and 11.07 so it took them 55mins to get there, but I suppose they did arrive EVENTUALLY... I was just assuming that this was linked to the backlog of the 120 million texts sent on New Year's Eve! Let's just hope no others go astray!

I've lost at least 3 messages today, and over the past fgew days SIM updates from Orange have not arrived as expected either. Something dodgy is going on and I aint a happy bunny no more. :D

I lost a few at the beginning and didn't get the answerphone icon.

On advice from someone on this board, I imported messages from my SIM. 4 messages I didn't know about! Read and deleted them and haven't had a problem since. However these messages are still on my SIM and reappear in my inbox everytime I import from SIM.

Not very reassuring is it?

have you tried using sim manage app to delete them from your SIM?

How? It looks to me like that's only for Phone numbers.

I don't mind them being there, would rather get rid of them, but I can live with them there. What bothers me is that they went there in the first place, instead of to the phone. And I got no indication they were there :-(

I haven't used this SIM in any other phone, so I'm not sure why this happened. Surely with the SPV all SMSes should go to the phone?

Also as mentioned I had answerphone messages, but no icon so I wonder if the "turn of answerphone icon" message from Orange went to the SIM instead of the phone?

As I said all this happened on the first weekend of getting the phone and I haven't missed any other SMSes or voicemail alerts since (as far as I know). I can live with it cause I like the phone :-)

The network probably got a bit hammered across New Years so it might relate to that. Even normally it is not unusual for some SMSs to take a number of hours to get through the network.

I thought it might be because of new year's, but the friend who sent the messages said he got delivery reports for both of them, which surely would only happen if the messages actually got picked up by the SPV? So that makes me think it was the SPV that lost them, not the network.

How? I can't find any options to do with SMSs!

I had some SMS messages that I was not aware of on the SIM. How do they get there instead of into the Inbox? How do I stop it happening again?

That doesn't delete the SMSs though - they stay on the SIM!

I had quite a few SMS lost / delayed over new year - you think the networks would prepare for it by now!

Can't really ever see them preparing for it. Why spend an absolute fortunate on equipment which is only going to be used once a year for a couple of hours? Even BT sometimes dies at New Year.

I'm more worried about missing messages when the network isn't delayed (which I don't think I've had yet). That and messages going to the SIM and you not being notified (which I had at the beginning).

I did read a while ago (on The Register I think) that Orange (I think, but it could be one of the others) had network problems and dumped a whole load of texts - though still charged for the sending! This was a year or two ago, I think. Anyway people who've experienced missing SMSes with the SPV this may just be being extra vigilent rather than the phone being at fault.
