Guest Vanbast Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 According to the Customizing the Microsoft Smartphone 2002 Home Screen white paper it lists some device sounds that are not found in the Programs->Settings->Sounds menu. These are SystemAsterisk, SystemDefault, MenuPopup, MenuCommand, SystemStart, SystemBusyTone and SystemcallWaiting. I have found that you /can/ in fact add some of these sounds. As an example follow these steps if you want to add a sound for menu popup. a) Copy Windowssounds.cpl.xml on to your PC. :D Edit it. c) Add these lines to the list of similar looking lines. d) save the file and copy it back. Now when you open the Sounds menu there will be an extra option called menu popup, assign a sound to it, press done and now when a menu pops up using the soft keys the sound plays. You can of course add more than one device sound in the sounds.cpl.xml file. This works for all the missing device sounds except SystemBusyTone and System Call waiting which result in an error if you try them. The sounds.cpl.xml gets overwritten if you power up however the sound settings stay. WARNING! There could be several reasons why these device sounds were omitted. One very real reason is that there is a bug which could cause problems with your SPV. Well, whatever, they seem to work form me with no problems. Good Luck. Mark
