Guest lycrawearer Posted January 3, 2003 Report Posted January 3, 2003 Have noticed this 'recurring' problem lately .... If my SPV turns itself off due to the battery becoming exhausted, or I 'reset' the phone by taking the battery off - when I turn then phone on again, I get the SMS 'Envelope' indicator on the top of the phone (what do you call it - the status bar ??) - and also the SMS message received tone. However, when I goto the inbox, there is nothing there !! I don't think I've lost any messages, and this only appears when the SPV is reset in the circumstances above ... Anybody else get this ? Lycrawearer
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 3, 2003 Report Posted January 3, 2003 No, although the other day when I switched the radio back on while exiting the lovely london underground I got the voice mail message indicator when I had no voice mail messages... I found the only way to clear was to ring myself, leave a voice mail message, then go and delete the voice mail and then it went back to normal.
Guest lycrawearer Posted January 4, 2003 Report Posted January 4, 2003 Yep - have just tried importing from SIM .. nothing there. Then switched my phone off by pulling the battery off - switched it back on & the 'new' message indicator was back ! Weird ! Lycrawearer
Guest hotphil Posted January 4, 2003 Report Posted January 4, 2003 I've got this problem and seem to remember seeing on another post that the only way to get rid is a hard reset :D Problem is, I just can't be ars*d to do a hard reset (again) for such a little problem. My workaround is just not to turn the SPV off Phil
Guest mickcope Posted January 4, 2003 Report Posted January 4, 2003 yea - i get this as well - waiting to hear from Orange tech support(still) mick
Guest ianintheworld Posted January 7, 2003 Report Posted January 7, 2003 Strangely enough I have this problem only when I use the Home Screen Full Layout Setting. If I use the Orange 1 or 2 layouts the SMS indicator says SMS (0). In full layout it says SMS (1)
Guest lycrawearer Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 Okay - further to this continuing problem ... Have just lodged a complaint with Orange ! I suspect that I may have a phone problem, as changing sims to other Orange sims that I have - the problem is still there ! For info - my phone details are as follows ... My phone's info details are Version 3, Build 12255 Radio Version 1.10.00 ROM Update versions Operator 1.1.6.0 Manufacturer 1.1.6.0 Microsoft 3.0.12255.0 Language 1.1.6.0 File System 3.0.12255.0 Can anybody else (with same problem or not) post their detaisl here - let's see if it's a phone bug or otherwise ! Thanks Lycrawearer
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 i remember reading early dec on the smartphone newsgroups various people had 0.x.x.x versions, these all seemed to be suffering a lot of problems too. i have the 1.x.x.x release, and all the same details as you...
Guest peterday Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 I have exactly the same problem - the same details too! The mysterious "misssing SMS" does seem to go away with certain home page configs (such as the orange layouts) though so I am currently trying to mess with the home page xml files to find out what is causing it!
Guest dava Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 I am having a similar problem, but in my case I have imported the SMS from SIM and then deleted them only to find that the new SMS counter remains on the 14 that I imported (i.e. on the homescreen it always looks like I have 14 new SMS!). Any ideas on this one (apart from a hard reset)? dava
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 OK, so i the bug then that you delete a SMS that you haven't read and it leaves it in your unread count? If that's it we at least have a clean bug to try to fix/bitch about.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 I have exactly the same problem - the same details too! The mysterious "misssing SMS" does seem to go away with certain home page configs (such as the orange layouts) though so I am currently trying to mess with the home page xml files to find out what is causing it! So maybe the MS version of the message count plugin is buggy, and the Orange one does ( ;) ) work correctly? More specific details on which do and don't have the problem would be appreciated so I can examine the xml
Guest dava Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 For the issue I mention above (and here: http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=2212 - sorry about the duplication, wasn't sure if I was moving away from the subject of this section) regardless of home screen layout the problem persists. I guess the question is: where is it logged and can I change the count in this file? Any ideas? dava
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 I would assume it is part of whichever db holds the inbox information, i think its one of the .vol's in ISPM. Theres no way to access them directly other than through the inbox though afaik. Maybe one of the evc++ tools can, but i dont have them installed on my machine here at work
Guest benny Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 Lycrawearer - I'm using the exact same versions of everything as you are, yet I've never had this problem. B
Guest peter_spv Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 This issue affected my SPV when deleting sms messages that I hadn't read AND using the Full layout. This is a Microsoft script which references a plugin with a different SID to that referred to by one of the Orange scripts that does work. Although I had deleted all SMS messages, my Home screen thought I had (128) unread. I edited the xml in notepad to include the working SID and copied it back into the Windows folder on the SPV. This worked and my phone now reports (0) sms as it should. I have no idea what the Ms script is referencing - there must be some rogue flag somewhere in the system that is not coping with the fact that someone can delete a message without reading it. Anyway, it may not be a terribly thorough solution, but it works. If anyone wants the modified script, I will gladly mail it to them. Peter
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 My SPV will go off as if i have recieved an SMS just as it switchs from the SmartPhone bootscreen. The counter also changes from 0 to 1. It seems O developed their own plugin to override this bug, only problem is it makes the phone run like a dead dog.
Guest HelloDave Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 i think its one of the .vol's in ISPM. Theres no way to access them directly other than through the inbox though afaik Microsoft make a Win CE database viewer which works on decerted SPVs. It isn't very user friendly, as scrolling takes an age, but you can delete database entries. Extract the exe from the zip file and run it on your phone via ALL/Smart ExplorerdbViewSp_Arm.zip
Guest mcbutler Posted March 1, 2003 Report Posted March 1, 2003 Hi All, I think you will find this is a problem with the microsoft plugin (fancy microsoft making a boob, wonders will never cease!) It usually affects downloaded skins like the ones at bornsloppy etc and is not apparent in the skins provided with the phone. However saying that all my original skins, orange layout 1 etc display the ghost SMS indicator but the Orange full screen does not!! The plugin is in the home.xml folder in the windows folder on the phone. You will find that in the recent update Orange have write protected all the program files on the phone so it will be a bit of a tease to sort out. I was well on the way till I installed the update (buggar). Keep this string going guys, someone will crack it in the end but I bet you a million it won't be Orange and it certainly won't me Microsoft. :)
Guest hex Posted March 5, 2003 Report Posted March 5, 2003 I also have the same problem but different versions: Operator 1.3.5.6 Microsoft 3.0.12255.0 Language 1.3.5.6 File System 3.0.12255.0 Don't know if thats of any use to the techies here but I'd love to get rid of that pesky phantom! Incidentally, I previously had a problem where it indicated -1 messages. I worked around that by marking a message as unread. It had to be an email for some reason, even though it showed up as an sms on the home screen. I forgot all about it and it seemed to disappear.
Guest ambro Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 i just had the same problem i fixed it by... renaming the cemail.vol to cemail.vo then the phone will freeze remove the battery and restart... =) now the message indicator has gone leaving the counter on 0
Guest EMGenius Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 Ambro, if i do that will i loose all of the messages on my phone? also: Hello Dave said: Microsoft make a Win CE database viewer which works on decerted SPVs. It isn't very user friendly, as scrolling takes an age, but you can delete database entries. Extract the exe from the zip file and run it on your phone via ALL/Smart Explorer Do you kow which string i should delete to get rid of this message notifoication?
Guest EMGenius Posted April 9, 2003 Report Posted April 9, 2003 I tried messing with that *.vol file and i lost all my message as i suspected!!!! I thought that i would try the other solution that was floating about and replace the csid string in my custom home.xml file. This fixed the problem of phantom SMS but it made the SMS notification notice go back to the default view by microsoft (i.e small black bold text), which is competly dfferent to the rest of the home screen and is cr*p on my dark background! Here is the code for that part of my home page (with the new csid string): sms: , vmail: Does anyone know how to fix this?? have i done something wrong?? thanks for your help in advance!!
