Guest NXNM Posted January 3, 2003 Report Posted January 3, 2003 I had a thought (yes it hurt), about this Certification issue. If Orange arnt Certifying apps the how are the software manufactures going to test them. If they cant use it on the Smartphone then surely they cant develope it?
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 3, 2003 Report Posted January 3, 2003 I had a thought (yes it hurt), about this Certification issue. If Orange arnt Certifying apps the how are the software manufactures going to test them. If they cant use it on the Smartphone then surely they cant develope it? The theory goes that 1- they can test them on the emulator that comes in the SDK and 2- developers will in some way be provided with SPVs with the certification requirements eased for the purpose of development. Point 2 is allegedly going to be addressed by Orange in the near future but I haven't heard anything about it recently. I'm not sure what you'll have to do to sign up for their developer program or what rights it will give you...
Guest DJHope Posted January 3, 2003 Report Posted January 3, 2003 Their was a hint that an update SMS message could be sent to remove cert. Failing that then they will provide devlopment phones somehow. However no doubt we wont find out what exactly is going on until the end of this month along wiv the much famed "upgrade" which according to the danish(?) dosnt seem todo much except change the signal level bars :D
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 3, 2003 Report Posted January 3, 2003 Their was a hint that an update SMS message could be sent to remove cert. Yeah not sure... Either they'll patch the phone to make it not require certificates as you suggest or possibly they'll give you a personal certificate to use and load that certificate onto your phone. This would mean to load other peoples apps you would need to sign them yourself and I'm not sure if that requires source code or what...
Guest DJHope Posted January 3, 2003 Report Posted January 3, 2003 Intrestingly the xbox linux project (http://xbox-linux.sourceforge.net/) is working to crack MS Certification because xbe's (xbox execuatbles) need singing! no doubt orange certification is done through a very similar or even identical method :D "The RSA Signature is based on two types of keys. First there's the public key, built in in every Xbox (ED: Smartphone) to verify a signature. The other key is the private key, it is very, very secret and only Microsoft (ED:orange) has it. If a company wants to sell an Xbox (ED: Smartphone) app they have to send it to Microsoft (ED:orange) and then Microsoft (ED:orange) will sign it with their private key. If we had that private key, we would be able to sign our own code, so the question is: How to get this key?" No doubt its not easy but if xbox crew can do it then we certainly can.
