Guest Simon Desser Posted January 3, 2003 Report Posted January 3, 2003 I've mentioned this a few times on the microsoft smartphone newsgroup but had very few answers so I'm putting here too, as it's really bothering me. If you are browsing/downloading/streaming/collecting or sending emails etc. you CANNOT receive incoming calls!!! Once the phone finishes what it's doing and is still connected via GPRS, then a call will get through and GPRS is disconnected as it is supposed to. For example once a web page has been fully loaded and you are reading it, calls can get through. But whilst the SPV is actually "doing something" you're unobtainable. I tried doing the same thing with my Nokia 7650 last night, and calls interrupt the GPRS connection as they are supposed to at all times. In my opinion this is a very serious problem, as I don't want to be "unavailable" everytime I get my emails etc.
Guest NXNM Posted January 4, 2003 Report Posted January 4, 2003 I dont have this problem, i recieved a call whilst streaming video just a few hours ago.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 5, 2003 Report Posted January 5, 2003 Ditto, the GPRS / Call implementation sucks as GPRS isn't reconnected properly after receiving the call, but calls DO get thru! (for me at least!) I'm pretty sure there was another thread about this - try a search.... ^ P
Guest Simon Desser Posted January 5, 2003 Report Posted January 5, 2003 Paul, could you do me a favour and check if calls get through to your SPV when you are doing something like streaming radio. If they do, then mine is faulty and needs to go back. (A few people are now reporting calls don't get through like on mine) Thanks a lot Simon
Guest wideawake Posted January 5, 2003 Report Posted January 5, 2003 I can confirm my GPRS connection is interupted when receiving an incoming call (in my case frustrating as I was downloading ICQ 3.7meg at the time!!) And like Paul GPRS did not reconnect when call ended. (I have problems with GPRS - IRDA but I will post elsewhere!)
Guest firestarter Posted January 5, 2003 Report Posted January 5, 2003 I just tryed on my phone(while using GPRS) and I was connected to orange answer phone.
Guest Will Posted January 5, 2003 Report Posted January 5, 2003 at home: with 4 bars on the signal strength, i get interrupted by the call, but elsewhere, on 0 or 1 bars (still happily surfing) i get a notification of new voicemail. AFAIK it may be to do with the signal strength? or even the individual cell site you are using (they just built a new one 1/4 mile from me). Hope this helps. Will
Guest Simon Desser Posted January 6, 2003 Report Posted January 6, 2003 I've just tried it at work where I get "full wack" on Orange (4 bars) and calls still don't get through, so I can't see it's got anything to do with signal strength? Cheers Simon.
Guest Rog Posted January 6, 2003 Report Posted January 6, 2003 Calls don't get through for me, base station in building (Mobile 'phone companies like to do that!) and GPRS does NOT drop for voice calls when doing update or browsing!
