Bug: Phone lights up for no apparent reason when in cradle

SYMPTOM:

Just noticed that when the phone is in the cradle the light randomly goes on and off.

RESOLUTION:

This will be HTC's hardware...I'm guessing something's polling in the powersaving algorithm they use. (I know it's on wall power, but it may not.)

yea its definitely sommit to do with the power changes, when it goes from charging to charged and then from charged to charging seems to be the only cases that trigger it.

If it's got the same bugs as Pocket PC, it'll also switch on at midnight if you leave it in the cradle as well.

I got an invite to this trial too and i have signed up. A bit useless for anyone running a mid-high range handset but nice if you have a cheapy payg with no email functionality. Will see how it goes and just not send any replies!

Who is eligible for this trial?

If you are a current Orange Pay Monthly customer and have a Multimedia messaging phone (one which takes photos) then you should be eligible for the trial.*

The deadline for completion of the application form is 12.00 midday, Tuesday 21st March 2006.

The trial will begin on Wednesday 22nd March 2006 and will end at midnight on Wednesday 19th April. If your phone is compatible for the trial and you have completed the application form, you will receive an email from Orange with a Orange Mobile Email user guide, plus a message from Orange on your mobile phone with instructions on how to set-up the service. Please be aware that there are limited places on the trial, therefore triallists will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Heh, true. I think all mobile operators have realised the true revenue is in mobile power users - those that use data services for web browsing and email on their handsets - and not in the odd customer not too scared of running up huge bills if they go to the operators wap portal and download a ringtone.

Back on topic though, a lot of mobiles on the market today are either very limited or completely lacking in an email client. All ages of people use email now and if Orange come up with a cheaper-than-text package for this service it'll be a nice alternative to sms.
