Guest whitfia1 Posted January 4, 2003 Report Posted January 4, 2003 [Edited by Site Admin, thanks for the submission whitfia1!] SYMPTOM: It permanently says on my homescreen that I have an SMS thats unread - SMS (1). Even when I do receive an SMS, this then changes to SMS (2) then when I read my new one and go back to the home screen it shows SMS(1) again. Restarting doesn't seem to help, every time I restart the phone the little message indicator appears at the top of the display and again going into the inbox, there is no message. RESOLUTION: None known
Guest davidhorn Posted January 4, 2003 Report Posted January 4, 2003 See if there's an unread one in your deleted items folder?
Guest HelloDave Posted January 4, 2003 Report Posted January 4, 2003 I think there's another post about this somewhere. Check there aren't any messages on your SIM, otherwise it could be hard reset time :D
Guest Spell Posted January 6, 2003 Report Posted January 6, 2003 I have the same problem. I think it started when I got an email and sms at the same time - the phone played the sms-speech and I found a new email in my inbox but no sms...since then my homescreen new-sms counter never dropped below 1. Somebody knows where incoming sms are stored? I only found the sent-sms and emails in the IPSM filesystem...
Guest lycrawearer Posted January 6, 2003 Report Posted January 6, 2003 I 'reported this too' - check http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=1488 Bloody annoying isn't it ? Lycrawearer
Guest Red Fish Posted April 3, 2003 Report Posted April 3, 2003 I've had this as well ... started when a SMS arrived whilst I was on the phone. Spoke to Orange Tech Support, who 'have never heard of this before' ... after numerous calls to them and a certain amount of jumping through hoops to assist in troubleshooting, they realised it only happens on Home Screen layout - Full Layout. After ringing Orange about 8 times over a month, to close the case (and probably to get rid of me) they shipped me a new SPV  Do Orange Tech Support read this forum ???
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 3, 2003 Report Posted April 3, 2003 Some do. But they can only tell you over the phone what they have displayed on their computer screens...
Guest Thaagaard Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 I have the same problem and will check this forum out for solutions. BR
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 5, 2003 Report Posted April 5, 2003 2 Simple solutions: 1: Hard reset (solved my message plugin doing this, not the reason i hard reset though) 2: Rename "cemail.vol" in IPSM. This will nuke any messages you currently have, but will stop it reporting the phantom SMS.
Guest Coolboy1982 Posted April 7, 2003 Report Posted April 7, 2003 2: Rename "cemail.vol" in IPSM. This will nuke any messages you currently have, but will stop it reporting the phantom SMS. Yep! This worked for me, too!
Guest Will Posted April 7, 2003 Report Posted April 7, 2003 i found a possible cause of this: I can make a phantom sms by opening an email when it is downloading (love slow gprs). - ie when there is no subject and no sender shown. Repeating this process clears it!! Try it! Will

Guest cyberpal Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 monolithix' solution #2 worked for me too... nuked my emails too :)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 Click the phantom sms link for a slightly less drastic fix :)
