Guest snafu Posted January 5, 2003 Report Posted January 5, 2003 Did you see it? windows It's about signature...
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 6, 2003 Report Posted January 6, 2003 And...? Should we delete it? Hack it? or what? It's in Rom so you can't do a thing with it unless you are able to write valid rom updates... (which probably need to be signed)
Guest Arisme Posted January 6, 2003 Report Posted January 6, 2003 see http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default....e_providers.asp if you want more information about it and its format ... and yes, you cannot do anything with it (wonder why the system bit wasn't set on this file though, probably a mistake when they built the filesystem)
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 6, 2003 Report Posted January 6, 2003 Ah, had a quick skim of microsofts information... all well and good but not a lot of general use. Yes, you could write a replacement dll to contain your own crypto scheme but to get the dll to work with the OS you'd have to get it signed by Microsoft anyway as it's fundamental technology. So even if we could address how to replace this in ROM we'd still be stuck because we'd run up against MS certification requirements for this bit of the operating system instead of Orange certification requirements... Still, interesting stuff...
Guest BobbyMac Posted January 6, 2003 Report Posted January 6, 2003 If you look at the file, it doesn't seem to be signed. At least it isn't signed the way the others dll are signed. The word "orange" doesn't appear. Interesting... :D

Basically it should be handling the Orange signing of all other apps on the device, so as this is the core of the certification control M$ keeps a tight control over who writes these files. So I would expect it to be M$ signed. I'm at work at the mo so can't check my phone but if you copy the file to your PC and then right click and look at it's properties their should be a page in there with it's signature details (if it's signed in the standard way). At least on Win2K that's how you can view digital signatures...
