Now, I'm not saying the SPV is without it's faults... (no ff/rew on media player, no standard Explorer software, no standard camera software, etc etc etc...)

But:

- Doesn't anyone else remember when mobile phones were the size and weight of a brick?!

- When the only caller ID you had was a red LED indicating an incoming call?

- When it was all NiCad batteries (the size and weight of your current mobile), with their overnight charging and supposed "memory"?

- And does anyone reminisce about the delights of analogue network coverage? I didn't think so.

So, there's some problems with the SPV. But they are almost all software problems. Which may or may not get fixed.

That aside, we've got a piece of hardware that makes calls (natch), is tri-band (not that anyone I know has tried using an SPV in the US), plays MP3s (or WMAs if you're still on the 8MB card), plays videos (of a sort), sends and receives emails, takes photos, stores at least two ex-girlfriends' phone numbers AND (most importantly for many of us) impresses anyone within screen-gazing distance of Tennis Addict.

And it fits in your pocket.

And all for the price of a decent night out. (And the price of another year's contract with Orange, who really aren't that bad. Or, at least, not as bad as they used to be).

Just wanting to keep things in perspective for all you fellow early adopters.

PS I remember the 'net when Gopher servers were considered avant garde. Anyone else? Or is it just me..?

PPS Kids today. They don't know how good they've got it. There were 150 of us living in shoebox in middle o' road...

You mean 10-20 people in cars all parked up on the only 30' bit of highground in the Fens (the very flat bit of East Anglia), just so they could 'TRY' to ring someone, even though they had driven past 15 payphones just to get there?

I fully agree with you, but this should probably be in off topic?
