2 minute time out?

Hi guys, i have finally managed to get my irda and modem working on gprs with my laptop....woooohooooo, but now i am left with a problem that quite a few ppl have, that of the irda and modem disconnecting after about 2 minutes? there are several posts in various threads on this but no answers to the problem. I have the init string on the modem set to the correct settings but dont understand what the powerdown settings should be set for? I would love to know if anyone has got round this cos its starting to annoy me now?

thanks

Yep I had this, or something very similar. I'm using windows 2000. Originally when I connected via IrDa it timed out every 2 mins or so. So I shut down most of the tasks that were running in the background. I had "CD Player" running in the background. If I switched this off it gave me a more stable connection (but no music in the background while surfing the Net)

Now when I lose connection, the only way I can reconnect is to power down phone and start up again, which you can imagine is a pain, reactivate Irda, dial up again. If I do not power down dial up says that modem is not configured correctly, or is in use.

Incidently if you stick the phone in the cradle when you have lost connection it also does not active sync - which makes me think it is some setting on the phone to do with active sync.

Let me know if you discover any solutions.....

hmmmm, is very strange? my main reason for using the phone like this is to use msn messenger whilst i'm out and about? i know the phone has messenger on it but is totally unuseable when having detailed conversations? so need the keyboard from my lappy to type replies and ask questions? if there was a keyboard available for the phone it would be 10,000% better? i have to say that the phones keypad is probably a worse design than the titanic! if you are 4" taller than a dwarf or dont have fingers like ET is a al pain to use? Having used the irda connected modem i must say it is very slow! but should be ok for messaging? I will have a play with the settings to see if i can stop the timing out? usually the phone locks up solid and requires rebooting anyway?

What speed do you get when connected via IrDa?. Again mine is weird it starts of really high about 11k then drops to 5k, this continues to drop till it stabilizes at about 2k (I'm connected through GPRS)

all i can tell is that i have a 115.2kbps connection throught the modem, i have left the irda settings on my lappy at 4mbps so will get as fast a connection as the phone will support? how do you know what speed you have connected in, in kilobytes?
