Guest benny Posted January 7, 2003 Report Posted January 7, 2003 Hi, When sending files to the SPV via an IR port on a laptop, does anyone know where they end up? I just sent three files across, and I can't find them anywhere on the phone using ALL-Explorer. I know they're on there somewhere! B
Guest HelloDave Posted January 7, 2003 Report Posted January 7, 2003 I had this problem when I tried to transfer some mp3 files by IR. The SPV lost them because it tried to store a 3mb file in IPSM, which had 2mb free space, even though I had an empty 128mb SD card :D It works fine for small files though which all the slow IR transfer is good for anyway! If it can fit the file on the phone then it'll store it in IPSM/My Documents as zenabi said.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 7, 2003 Report Posted January 7, 2003 erm...you can tranfer files back and forth using activesync with IR just as you can with usb. just ignore the ms wireless transfer shite and activate activesync on your spv. smartphone device then appears in my computer and you can browse through the files and folders as per usual.
Guest HelloDave Posted January 7, 2003 Report Posted January 7, 2003 you can tranfer files back and forth using activesync with IR just as you can with usb But very very slooooowwwwwwwlllllyyyyy (115kbps to be more accurate)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 7, 2003 Report Posted January 7, 2003 i was only copying home screwen .xml's so it wasnt that noticable :D
Guest HelloDave Posted January 7, 2003 Report Posted January 7, 2003 Hmm, stupidly I thought "oh, IR works at 4mbps doesn't it? I won't bother taking the cradle away with me, just my trusty laptop with IR port". Stupid me - I had a new 128mb SD card, a CD-RW full of wmas, and my method of getting them onto the SPV? You guessed it, the IR port! I couldn't even get the thing to work til I installed ActiveSync and Outlook on my poor space challenged laptop (thank god I took the SPV s/w cd!) and then I just waited and waited, and then waited a bit longer for the file transfers. I think I could have gone home and got the cradle quicker, or maybe downloaded the files over GPRS :D Buy an XDA USB syc cable - its gotta be worth it!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 7, 2003 Report Posted January 7, 2003 hehe, unfortunately by the time i get the money for one of them the official spv one is likely to be out :D
Guest benny Posted January 8, 2003 Report Posted January 8, 2003 I think that might have been the problem then. I was transferring files simply by lining up the IR port of the SPV and a W2K laptop, which did allow the transfer to take place. I ended up waiting till I got home and downloaded the files again. Much easier. Cheers for the replies. B
