Guest Slohr Posted January 7, 2003 Report Posted January 7, 2003 [Edited by Site Admin, thanks for the submission slohr!] SYMPTOM: Windows Media Player randomly selects which sound channel to use as left/right channel. Try starting a song, with an easily recognisable left-right sound pattern, over and over, and you will find that there’s a 50/50 chance that it plays right/left rather then left/right. RESOLUTION: None Known
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 7, 2003 Report Posted January 7, 2003 noticed that today was walking home though so couldnt really be arsed to test it properly hehe
Guest cpt_andy Posted May 31, 2003 Report Posted May 31, 2003 I was making a 2.5-3.5mm converter today and when I when to check to see if I had the channels correct, I had exactly the same problem, although it seems to not just be WiMP - Sound Manager does it too. At least I don't have to worry about getting the channels correct . Is this a hardware problem or just a software bug? I have attached a test mp3 if anyone wants to test their stereo. Cpt. RESOLUTION: None Known In fact this is a problem with the earphone adapter, not with WMP. Some earphone adapters will invert channels when inserted completely, and will give you the right channels when inserted half-way. Yes, that's because Smartphones (at least the ones we tested) use a jack wiring that are not compatible with regular stereo earphones using standard adapters.

While I agree that it is not WiMP that is at fault, is still a problem with the Smartphone itself, not any adapter, as the problem occurcs with the supplied headphones aswell. Cpt. Andy

Cpt. Andy Do you confirm the observation that we made, i.e. that this is a problem with the plug ? (i.e. the channel will invert or not when you wiggle with the adapter)

Guest p3108 Posted January 22, 2004 Report Posted January 22, 2004 Is there no solution to this problem then cos it's doing my head in. It might seem a bit anal but I wan't to hear my music as it's intended to be not with the channels randomly swapped the other way around. This happens with any media player and any headphone combination including the 2.5mm supplied headphones (E100). It is obviously a bug with the phone itself. Has anyone got a fix for this PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!
