Orange Update (Switzerland) ALERT Error Message

I encountered the following error, when activating the Orange Update "Check for Updates" Funktion:

"Dieser Service ist für Gebrauch mit dem Orange Netz nur vorhanden!"

After receiving this error, only OK can be pressed - any other functionality from "Orange Update" is impossible to access.

Where did you get your SIM card (what carrier?)

It's a standard ORANGE SIM Card. (got it in 2000)

The point is, that Orange Update worked fine before I had this alert message.

I contacted ORANGE and they told me that my profile on the server is OK.

ORANGE will send me a new SIM card. ORANGE say's it must be an error on the SIM card.

The point is, that ORANGE could tell me the reason for this error - that shows me that ORANGE does not have the skills to now to investigate technical problems on a deeper area...

Why does the Orange Update app use the SIM card?

Does this mean I can only get updates with my Orange SIM in?

If I were, for example, to put my Voda SIM in my (unlocked) SPV, it would not update correctly?

Yep! Thats correct. At least that is what Orange says in DK. If you buy the SPV unlocked y r not able to use services as Orange Backup and Orange UPDATE. It seems, that the update we all r waiting for is an "Orange" update and not - lets say a MS patch.

You would expect that some of the costs involved in runnig these services (esp orange backup) are recovered in contract costs. i'd be a little pissed if i were a provider with such a service and users with my competition were using them

I wonder if the patch is an Orange update, or a patch to the core OS from Microsoft?

But with some tricks u can still update ur phone :(

Just managed to update my uk one to SW one :( even to copy the update program too :P

I can share the update exe :lol: just need to copy on ur phone and run it :lol: will update without need to go in updates :lol:

So the exe for update is:XDPDeliver.exe with 716,360 wich is a self extract arhive wich will create XDPRunner.exe, LAND.XDP, OEM.XDP, and OPERATOR.XDP :lol:

Unfortunate the exe checking the operator version..if not maching, not upgrading :lol: But that didn't stoped me :lol:

I asked orange to help them in fixing bugs, but no answer from them..seems not intersted in what i know and what i can do :D

I am from Switzerland and did the update having some problems though. The upgrade consists of three loops. I mistakenly canceled after two loops and the upgrade could not be run again because of the version check florin_m indicated.

In my opinion the oem.xdp is the only patch regarding the os. It is also the lengthiest. The oem.xdp is executed as last loop. I managed to launch the last loop of the rom update by installing the explorer software trial on my hpc and directly launch "oem.xdp" from the explorer screen after unpacking the downloaded update pack.

That was long time ago (2 weeks). I still am waiting for the official reply of the Orange support line I was asking 3 weeks ago regarding my problem.

I wouldn't have thought that Orange Update access would be allowed to non-Orange users, as then pretty much anyone in the world could find the IP of the site and download ringtones and stuff.

I'm guessing they check the address of the phone, which for Orange GPRS is future-is.orange.co.uk
