Guest stu.mcandrew Posted January 8, 2003 Report Posted January 8, 2003 Dear All - I need a bit of help if poss... Firstly, I want to move some files around using ALL Explorer but it makes be a bit nervous, as I am concerned that I may mess something up and not be able to put it right - a bit girly I know. I want to move a Hexacto game (slurp) from my IPSM folder onto my storage card. Is it as simple as 'cutting' the hexacto folder than has slurp in from program files in IPSM and 'pasting' it into program files in Storage Card? Secondly, as I have already become very dependant on my SPV and its applications, I want to ensure I back-up all my SPV's content onto my PC in the event of disaster with my phone. How do I best do this, as ActivSync doesnt sync everything on the phone? If I simply try to copy all the SPV's folders onto my PC, it wont let me do it, as it informs that certain files cant be copied. Thirdly, if I did have to reinstall my hopefully backed up data onto a new SPV from my PC, is it as simple as copying everything back into phone? Lastly, any general hints and tips on moving/deleting/organising files would be greatly appreciated. There seems to be so many small files/documents within folders after folder on my SPV, I would let to get rid of any un-needed mess and clutter without screwing my phone up. Sorry for the long post, but I work for a company thats specialises in critical Internet business continuity services, so I am a bit paranoid about stuff like this. Thanks in advance (hopefully) Stu
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 8, 2003 Report Posted January 8, 2003 I don't know if that will work (without trying) but you may need to reinstall Slurp. you could try and move it then place a shotcut in the old location. Like I said I have not tried this but it might be worth a try :D

Is it as simple as 'cutting' the hexacto folder than has slurp in from program files in IPSM and 'pasting' it into program files in Storage Card?i wouldnt risk it (cant really do it on win 9x or nt based os's), so i'd reinstall it onto the storage card Secondly, as I have already become very dependant on my SPV and its applications, I want to ensure I back-up all my SPV's content onto my PC in the event of disaster with my phone. If I simply try to copy all the SPV's folders onto my PC, it wont let me do it, as it informs that certain files cant be copied. all you need really is ISPMapplication datahome for any custom home screens, then the two My documents, one in ISPM and the other on the staoragecard from orange, as for your messages tasks and contacts sync them regulary with activesync and outlook on your pc Thirdly, if I did have to reinstall my hopefully backed up data onto a new SPV from my PC, is it as simple as copying everything back into phone?just copy all backed up files back to ur storagecard or phone memory and activesync your contacts and email messages Lastly, any general hints and tips on moving/deleting/organising files would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance (hopefully) Stu basically work out of the my docs folder in your storagecard, as this keeps ROM memory freed up on the phone to keep it running smoothly. i have prob missed stuff here but those are the genreal basics, and i'd take most of the "my phone hard reset itself" or "i needed to hard reset my phone" stories with a pinch of salt. i've had mine 3 weeks now and i havent had any problem yet that would make me even consider yanking the battery out, never mind hard resetting it...
Guest stu.mcandrew Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 Thanks for the replies. Sorry to carry this on, but can I check the following.... The two applications I am particularly paranoid about is ListPro and CodeWallet, as I have a lot of important info in them. My life would be 'cack' if they went bye-bye. If I have been copying the contents of Program Files (in either storage card or IPSM) onto my PC, and then lose my phone, can I assume that if I re install the application and then copy these backed up files from my PC back into the relevant Program Files folder on my SPV, everything will be back to normal? Or am I better buying the desktop versions of these two apps and then syncing with them?
