AN easier way is to just download the homescreen created here by one of the good users of this forum:

It's very easy you just email it to yourself and click on the file attachment and it will install a scheme for you.

You don't have to use that particular one but it gives you the options of 'Black reversed' in Settings> Home Screen> Colour Scheme

which is great for technical incompetents like me!!
