Everyone seems to be having trouble with All-Explorer. They have trouble loading it, it wont work, it costs too much etc.

I haven't tried this but why not just make a shortcut to all the files on your spv through ActiveSync. It wouldn't be as advanced as file explorer, but at least you could brobably add and delete, or rearrange files.

I certainly am having NO problems with File Explorer - It loaded fine and registered first time. It does its job properly.

I agree its expensive and Orange should have included it on the phone in the first instance. But what the heck - the phone was free!

This seems like just the thing I have been looking for! Where can I down load it from?

Many thanks

All Explorer is well worth the money and is downloadable from www.all-locations.com

There's a trial version on the SD card that came with your phone if you want to try it first.

The only problem people have with it is the "Automatic" registration which for some obscure GPRS related issues doesn't work all the time (you only have to do this once for the app anyway). It seems if GPRS is already connected (like you've been using IE) then it goes fine.

But anyway, they have a manual method where you get a code of their website and key it into your phone and this ALWAYS works.

I loaded it without any probs, had to register it manually though but that's not difficult. It's a superb app, works well and is so good that it really should be on everyone's essential list like the GPRS Traffic Counter.

Agreed, these are essential tools. Great software, never have any probs with either the GPRS or All-explorer. Yes worth the money, cus they are absolutly essential, however becuase they are critical to getting the most out of the phone I feel they should really be included as part of the operating system.

I'd be interested to know if and how much Orange and/or MS make out of each app sold. If they don't make anything, bar the certification fee, then I don't mind so much, at least the cash will go to the developers.

Cheers, Shire

I'd imagine orange probably get something out of providing direct sales links from their wesite. They probably aren't providing this service purely out of the goodness of their hearts to the developers.

Oww you never know

Or they could be feelin guilty that

THEY NEVER INCLUDED IT WITH THE PHONE AS THEY SHOULD HAVE!!!!

Just inagine what normal windows would be like without

explorer

One day O and MS might play fair but i'm not holding my breath

I know that of the people that hang around this forum only a small proportion are developers, and that furthermore these poor souls can't be expected to continually hand us freebies for app unlocked phones like doom ports/task managers/notepad type things but I figured there's no harm in asking - anyone tried writing/porting an alternative to all explorer? I'm not quibbling over a few quid for a piece of software, but it annoys me that it should have been on the phone in the first place..... can you imagine if MS shipped a desktop windows version without a file mangler?

And I tell you mate, even now I always run a command prompt window in the background and use it at the slightest excuse - I grew up with DOS and command prompt driven stuff still makes a lot of sense. But I'd hate to try and use it on a device without a proper keyboard.. like the SPV!

Be fair, later versions of DOS did have the shell, which was quite good IMHO! I can kind of understand why M$ didn't include a file explorer; partly because they realised they could make money out of it later, and partly becuase the SPV is a phone for chrissakes! ;) You can use the SPV, combined with ActiveSync, without a file explorer fairly happily, and having apps like an explorer as standard might scare some less technical users - the SPV would be more of a computer that happens to make phone calls rather than the other way round. It needs a GPRS counter, it doesn't need an explorer, though I personally wouldn't live without one! ActiveSync can manage files, but nothing on your PC can measure GPRS usage. I could get a couple of Mbs worth of browsing for the price of a GPRS counter too
