P>S soz for the ranttt.. :D
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 So what exactly did you post? Posts are ONLY deleted if they refer to software piracy or protection circumvention. The point of posting your ideas, knowledge and/or thoughts is of course to help others get the most from their SPV, and in my case, that was the whole point of setting up this forum. Freedom of speech? As I said, as long as it doesn't break the above rules. Altho, technically, I guess I can deleted whatever I want :D Hehe P
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 The thread he was posting on previously was in regards to exploiting a bug in the Hexacto games that allowed you to use the demo indefinitely as if it was the full purchased game. I posted that it was not an appropriate thread for this forum which I stand by. I am not opposed to freedom of speech or anything like that but feel that this board has a good reputation that won't benefit from such posts. Additionally, while we have issue with Orange and the certification requirements of this phone we should be supporting independant developers such as Hexacto who have jumped through the certification hoops to provide us with games rather than trying to get their products for free.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 Quite right SpaceMonkey. Exploiting a bug in a game that lets you play it an unlimited number of times is no better than piracy of the full version. The majority of SPV developers frequent this forum, and as mentioned above, it is important to maintain a good reputation. In addition to this, a number of software developers have offered free copies of their software for competitions - I don't think this would happen if the forum allowed unsuitable posts! Ask the 10 winners of the Ilium Software competition what their opinion is :D P
Guest chewie Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 Yeah i would like to know what you are refering too. I know i haven't personally deleted a post unless it is about piracy. And i personally only lock topics at the request of the poster or if it is a duplicate topic.
Guest kmon Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 This is EXACTLY my point.... chewie Posted: Thu Jan 09, 2003 10:44 am Yeah i would like to know what you are refering too. I know i haven't personally deleted a post unless it is about piracy. And i personally only lock topics at the request of the poster or if it is a duplicate topic. spacemonkey Posted: Thu Jan 09, 2003 10:36 am The thread he was posting on previously was in regards to exploiting a bug in the Hexacto games that allowed you to use the demo indefinitely as if it was the full purchased game. Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 SpaceMonkey cannot delete posts? P
Guest kmon Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 well firstly I apoligise profusely to space monkey for suggesting he was the culprit... but it still leaves the above questions unanswered... and the guilty party @ large...... kmon..
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 Correct. I didn't touch the post. I merely posted that I thought the thread was innappropraite and that Paul might want to do something about it. Then I watched the flames role in... Then I went home, the forum seemed to be down for a while and when it came back the thread was gone so I presume that Paul or someone else with the rights removed the thread. Personally I don't mind the flame's and yes some of the political correctness comments in them were relatively amusing, but I still stand by my statement that hacking programs to provide unlimited access to them or pirating software is an innapropriate thing to post about on this forum. If the post was about a way of "hacking" tennis addict to give you access to a special player or 10,000,000 points then I wouldn't have the slightest problem with it.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 I removed the thread, for the reasons mentioned above! P
Guest kmon Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 Hey space monkey... did you take your pic with the camera of your SPV.... is it you?????? sure u could do better than that!!! mybe we could all take a pic with our camera's and post...... kmon
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 Yeah, I took it using IA-Album in it's lowest res mode (it gives you another res lower than the MMS app) I wasn't after a good shot and I didn't edit it afterwards. I could have got a lot better quality if I had taken it at hi res and scaled it down in photoshop. I particularly like the way that my eyes seem to be pointing in completely different directions.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 I took my pic with my SPV too :D P
Guest chewie Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 ^ as did i, i think my hair came out a little blonder on the photo though :D
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 i am in fact 3 worms, all posting as one user as for the topic...i'd prefer that forum were kept "clean", having an unofficial site frequented by ms/o/software developers is pretty incredible, and hopefully they are all taking note of problems and ideas. i've never seen anything like this kind of user support and intereaction with any other mobile phone...
Guest kmon Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 LOL2FK u sexy people.... me is gonna join ya's soon.... paul has anyone told you,you look like a v/famous cartoon star!!! and you chewie you.....look f-all like you did in the movies..... oh how you've changed....fame has gone to your head...p.s hows han??? kmon  :!:
Guest (so)hai Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 i'm still on the kmon's side, this is not anyone's fault but the developer itself... he's just point out the bug and the advantage we can get from this bug... then how about the bug of the phone where other network SIM can be used? Izzit double-standard? I think the reason is that this forum has (or going to has) a good relation with the developers... maybe this is what ppl called business or potential incomes..... to all the good ppl working hard behind this forum, don't let other aspects to affect the main point and objective of the forum... just my 2p... sorry if it's not well expressed... p/s: Orange able to clear the SIm bug just 'cos it's been said in this forum, don't they?
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 And what is 'the main point and objective of the forum...' in your opinion [so]hai®? (Remember I created, maintain, control and run this forum by myself - with the exception of my mod team) :D P
Guest (so)hai Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 of course in my opinion the main point of this forum is to exchange knowledge and express own point of view and worst case, debate with flame... i guess that's the power of internet!!! :D
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 hai®"]he's just point out the bug and the advantage we can get from this bug... then how about the bug of the phone where other network SIM can be used? Izzit double-standard? Exploiting this bug in the software means that you can essentially use the game even though you have only been given a temporary license to do so. Exploiting the bug in the phone to allow use of another network doesn't breach any licenses or consumer law. You are merely following "fair use" of a device which you own. It is not depriving Orange of income because you paid for the phone and have a contract with Orange that involves a commitment to pay for their service for 12 months. This is exhibited in a recent(ish) court case in Australia where the courts upheld that Mod chipping Xbox consoles was completely legal as this is covered by fair use laws while pirating Xbox software is illegal as this is theft of intellectual proprty. Even exploiting a bug or "hacking" the phone to avoid certification would likely be legal under the terms of fair use as this is just making you're personal phone behave in a new way. The only point that hacking the phone to avoid certification may come up against is whether Orange would be entitled to kick you off their network for connecting a device that does not comply with their service rules.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 OK, cool. I don't think appropriate censorship of articles deemed unsuitable by myself or my designated representatives (my moderation team) prevents that. :D GOD
Guest (so)hai Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 okok...spacemonkey.. u really did ur homework... :D i really think 4 qute a long time before reply to u... i think no point we keep on debate like this... it's just small issue... ok... this is last time i reply to this post so would be better i tell stories... First story, there is a small developer company release their latest program demo, which will expire 30 after install... however, don't know what happen with the company or the programers (sleeping all time, i guess) that the software has serious bug with the expire function!!! the program won't expire but the worst is, many ppl have downloaded the demo... Then there is a "innocent" boy who dl and use the software realize the bug... ooh no, the boy post this flaw on forum and bang... everyone blame this boy for this... the boy cry and cry everynite... pity.... Second story, the developer company decided to sue the boy 4 his stupid mouth about the bug...!!??!!! In the court, the jugde y u "hacked" the software, the boy said "sorry ur honour, i didn't know i was not supposed to delete the installation file after install the demo, i also didn't know i can't beat the comp by 6 to 1... i'm really sorry 4 that, pls don't send me to jail". In the end, the judge conclude that although the bug is developer's fault but the boy MUST NOT telling the public about it 'cos this'll 'cos the company to lose money. After all, the boy went to jail... pity boy.... hope u all like this 2 story, i didn't mean to offence anybody, i swear, really... to kmon, i'm not gay and i don't know u as well... so don't worry....
Guest kmon Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 to kmon, i'm not gay and i don't know u as well... so don't worry.... you ever thought i might be???? :D cheers kmon btw it was not me who put the post in about the games BUG I just provided the back lash and comments afterwards.. kmon...
Guest (so)hai Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 oooppss... i made a mistake.. sorry.. but the post was deleted so fast... anyway, i know u r not gay, aren't u??? Just kidding... Happy New Year to u and all forum users!!! Cheers.
