Guest Ed Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 I suppose this is possible but I'm guesing it's not as simple as all that. Anyone tried this? The idea of having all my mp3s on my home computer to hand as I walk to work gives me the horn.
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 It might give you the horn but it'll cost you on GPRS
Guest Ed Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 OK. I'm vastly wealthy. Does anyone know if it'll actually work (well) ?
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 Media player on the SPV is able to play streamed video (check http://www.extremesport.tv/modile/ ) so I can't see why it wouldn't stream mp3s People have also talked about streaming radio working which is a good sign. You'll need to put some sort of streaming audio server on your home pc, not sure which, search for threads on here about streaming radio and then try to findout what server software they are based on...
Guest ukmailserver Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 http://www.muddytyres.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk...phone/radio.htm I have a few stations on here that I can get streams from. Galaxy 101 is good if you like dance and R'n'B. If you are not too old !!! I'm looking for low bit rate wmv movie or TV station files to link to cos I drive a long way to work every day and need something to watch as looking through the window whilst driving is boring me. 240 mile round trip every day. Barry
Guest ukmailserver Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 SpaceMonkey gave me the link before I even posted the request. Wow Cheers Barry
Guest chewie Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 If your into dance/trance then www.di.fm is the dogs doo da's for streaming. I listen to it all the time on my SPV when i'm in the shower!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 cant the window media encoder broadcast audio/video? i've not looked into it properly but i read something about it...
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 You are right, I'd forgotten those screens were in there... yeah, it seemed primarily for broadcasting stuff.
Guest Ed Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 Yeah I've used WME to stream a lot in the past. I was thinking along the lines of streaming over standard HTTP or even FTP. That way I could just set up directory browsing on my MP3s with a web server and choose them as I want. Works fine in Winamp/WMP 7. Can't wait to get my new toy :)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 10mb a month as reasonable use. i reckon even encoded down to 56ish kbps ur likely to stream this after just one album. has anyone had a bill yet after using streaming radio regulary?
Guest Shire29 Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 see here for a previous post on streaming radio, with the latest probs with potential charging of GPRS please be carefull, and I would advise warning people when giving links for radio streaming. http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic...highlight=radio Cheers, Shire
Guest pjh Posted January 10, 2003 Report Posted January 10, 2003 cant the window media encoder broadcast audio/video? i've not looked into it properly but i read something about it... I have tried streaming MP3 audio through webcasting software in Mixmeister and WME. Although WMP8 picks it up fine through mms:// and http:// ...the SPV will not find the server when it streams. (updated cos i tried it with WME)
