Has anybody been succesful in using the windows encoder or any other app to download some reasonable quality video to the SPV . As all attempts I've had have either been the video is really really crap or the video won't play! After all it is called the Sounds Pictures [glow=red:42790b9777]Video[/glow:42790b9777] phone!

Cheers

I'm not having a great deal of luck either. I downloaded the Windows Encoder and have been playing around with it for a few days now. I've been messing around with the bitrates, buffer etc to try and reach some kind of happy medium. So far the results have also been pretty crap. So i hope if there's any of you guys out their that can point us in the right direction i.e. the best method of encoding, this would be very helpfull.

You see i was kind of looking forward to buying a larger SD card and maybe encoding some longer video clips. For me one of the main selling points was to be able to watch video on the phone!!

What i would like to see is some kind of guide lines laid out by Microsoft/Orange or even a specific encoder for the SPV. :D :(

Yeh check out the chemical brothers video thats on the fone, use those settings i imagine thatll work i cant say ive tried it cause i dont have my phone yet, but i encoded a file with the same settings.

that is

Profile name: SPV Optimal

Description: For SPV phone

Audio bandwidth: 10 Kbps

Worked for me with similar settings. I currently have Ali G In Da House the full movie on my phone. The size of the file was only 25Mb. And it runs with hardly any stuttering. If anyone wants a copy of the file (and legally owns the dvd or video of course!!!) email me and ill send it over.

I've just done a search of the whole forum and found a post by this guy who provided the following encoding details:-

single Channel ISDN

Sound

Windows Media Audio 9

10kbps / 11 mhz

video

Windows Media Video V7

160 x 120

Frame rate 10

Key frames 8

Quality 0

I've now tried these with a 4 minute music video and they work pretty good, well the best i think you're gonna get anyway. No real jumpyness i.e. buffering etc.

I'm now just to about to order a 128 SD card so i can watch some movies on the go. [glow=red:cb007e5758]Damn![/glow:cb007e5758] i'm really getting to like this phone!!! :D

P.S. Could be an idea if we share our encoder settings, therefore we could compare and obtain the best/optimal results. :(

With those settings whats the filesizes like i.e. if you did get a 128Mb card how many minutes of video could you get on.

Would be a bit of a different way to pass time on the train :D

Heres what worked for me;

Video

Windows Media Video V8

160x120

36Kbps

Audio:

Windows Media Audio V8

08Kbps

11kHz

mono

managed to squeeze a 699Mb file into just 22.3Mb!

The file I used was a divx version of Ali G In Da House. It plays pretty much perfectly. If you want to have a look at the quality of the file itself pm me on msn and Ill send it you.

I don't think you will have much battery power left after watching a 2 hour movie!!!

Sorry for asking stupid questions but....im new to this!

How do you use encoder? i have some quicktime media file but when i try to edit them/convert them it wont let me saying it doesnt recognise the file. Not sure if im choosing the right options.

Read loads of setting people have suggested for media player, but where can you change/input these settings.

Cheers
