Guest seanrkelly Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 To whom it may concern. I am part of a good forum regarding the Orange SPV. We have all been patiently expecting an update from Orange for the SPV to help with 'dare I say' tremendous amounts of bugs and annoyances with the phone. (Why can't I IRDA between two SPVs! and I am fed up with having to soft-reset the phone when it freezes all the time) If you looked on Modaco site you would will see that most of us have made some good work in isolating problems but we've not received any official Word from Orange regarding an update. The last someone heard was that an update was to be available before the end of December 2003 - and this is a documented email from Orange in the forum. Come on guys - help us out here - after all, it is your phone and the PR job your doing is not exactly great!! Why not release a statement now - anything - before other people start complaining to the likes of - www.theregister.co.uk about the true nature of the SPV!! regards Sean Kelly
Guest Pebble Beach Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 Orange in DK has stated in an email, that the update for DK IS COMPLETE and ready. They are testing it at the moment and Orange DK has now gone so far actually to set a date for the update : around the 20th of this month. But I truly agree with you - is taken to long..... and if this update does not fix the most important bugs (who`s to tell which they are? - we the users) then yes - Orange has got a big problem.
Guest DJHope Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 Agreed really we need An Offical Release Date!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 I've heard nothing official from orange (other than the email seanrkelly refers to) about any updates. i agree with what spacemonkey has said before about not keeping any hopes up about it coming soon. also has anyone found out yet if it is an Orange or MS (or both) update? as for the register....they are known to be fairly anti-ms, and most the articles i've read on the smartphone there seem to be referring to the "pre-production" models released in the first ever batch. after reading the article about "not being able to call a number from the contact" and looking into the phone some more i wanted the phone desperately hehe. i'm very happy with what i got for the price i have paid, other than the battery life of course :/
Guest Shire29 Posted January 10, 2003 Report Posted January 10, 2003 Well, my phone has only ever frozen once, so I'm happy to wait for the update to be right rather than rush something that creates more problems than it fixes. Cheers, Shire
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 10, 2003 Report Posted January 10, 2003 I think the main issue is how Orange is handling people's expectations. The phone at the moment isn't perfect but it is definitely livable. The phone after the update will hopefully be better but will still not be perfect. So it's not too much of an issue when the update arrives, the problem is that no one knows when it's happening or what's happening and this uncertainty is what creates most of the panic of "OMG this phone will never work". Orange just needs to set a date and tell us, and if the date slips they need to tell us as soon as they realise that, why it's slipping and their new best guess of a release date. Also some details of what's going to be in it would be useful to allay people's fears. At the moment there was a statement from Orange last year saying "by the end of december" and there's a statement from Orange Denmark this year saying that it's being tested and 14days (and when that was released that means mid to late January) and that's all we officially know. I would hope that the Denmark information is meaningful for the UK customers but then, I wouldn't be surprised if the Orange franchise in each country was acting independantly, big companies can be quite stupid like that at times. I'd wouldn't mind if the update comes in feb or march, what I'd like is a clear statement from Orange now saying x/y/z is the date that we are aiming for for a UK update and this is what we are aiming to include in it.
