some people seem to think the comms/charger port on the bottom of the spv is not much faster than a serial connection, and base this on the slow refresh rate of the camera. this would put the connection speed at a mere 115.2kbps. judging by the speed at which it copies large files across it certainly isnt using the full bandwidth available from the usb port it connects to the pc with, and makes it no faster than IR heh.

anyone know the exact connection speed the usb cradle provides?

I tried to do some research on this on the web but even the HTC Canary stuff from the FCC doesn't really help.

It definitely has a 16550 Uart (or whatever, same as PC serial ports use) which gives it 115K or so speeds for modem etc, and I would be too surprised if that was it, so even if you connect it to USB that'll be it's max speed. This would also explain the camera performance, USB should be good for 10-12 frames per second at 640x480 (based on my experience with web cams) where as normal serial speeds line up very well with 2 frames a second preview and 3 seconds to take a photo (based on IA Album).

Sites also talk about the plug at the bottom working equally well with serial and usb connectors which would hint that it's serving the lowest common denominator. A lot of the tech is similarly based to that of the XDA, I'd be interested if anyone knows more detailed specs of the XDA's connection.

Trust me, the cradle is a lot faster than IR. I speak from experience on this one! It's still not as fast as my SD card reader though - heh heh.
