Guest J1A1H Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 Hi i have done nearly everything to my phone from my laptop which is windows 2000. But i bought a new computer with windows xp and when it comes to transfering or copying files from a folder on my desk top to a folder in active sync. i am not able to copy, of drag any thing across. Is there a way round this please someone help me thank you in advance. Josh
Guest J1A1H Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 There is no error it will just not let me copy any thing into the folder for example into the storage card folder or into the windows folder. I was just wondering if there is another way of getting round this problem
Guest yzbob Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 is active sync installed properly? can u copy from the phone to the computer?
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 I use XP fine. Very weird you get no error?!? P
Guest J1A1H Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 yea i can copy from the spv to the desktop but when i want to copy to the spv it just will not copy i have no idea why
Guest yzbob Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 what is it your trying to copy? do u have antivirus or firewall software installed? is the storage card write protected? have you tried to copy into the application datahome? what happens? does it freeze, or just do nothing? or change screen ? exactly what happens when you try to copy to the phone?
Guest J1A1H Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 I tried to copy music to my card and also i tried to copy the files to the phone which enlarge your screen. i have done all this but it was on my old computer this is my new one the card is not write protected. Nothing reezes it just does nothing. when i copy a file i press ctrl c and the i press ctrl v in the folderi want to copy it to, but i can't even do that i have to highlight the folders i want to copy and then click on an icon on the left of the screen which say "copy to" and i am able to copy it any where on the coputer but once i try to copy it to the phone it does not let me. its wierd i have never had this problem before help please
Guest yzbob Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 do u have antivirus or firewall software installed? try logging on as another user do you still have the same problem?
Guest J1A1H Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 yes i do have the same problem and i do not have a fire wall or an anti virus
Guest kmon Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 have you turn off the 'lock' on the sd card???? i have no problem with my phone an XP... altho there are files that, even tho i am the adminitrator,i can not delete??? even tho iput them tere, sometmes it says check to make sure no other prog is using it but nought ever is?? i am convinced that XP has some options somewhere that will undo these and other files sharing/compatiblity probs that other versions did not have.... kmon
Guest J1A1H Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 your problem isn't to do with xp i had that problem on windows 2000 aswell i am not sure wat it is but i got rid of it by deleting the file from the phone then on the computer. My sim card isn't locked. Are u able to copy files from your desk top to the folders in the spv?
Guest yzbob Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 for the files that have nothing to do with this problem i would try deleting them in safe mode (obviously u wont be able to active sync in safe mode but you could try a selective start up in msconfig keeping active sync running, if that doesnt help resolve the problem you could run a repair on windows xp
Guest J1A1H Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 How do u run a repair on windows xp because this thing with using "ctrl c & ctrl v" does not work and it works on every other computer?
Guest yzbob Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 do u have oem xp or retail cd? if oem ur probably f***ed if retail, boot from cd, press enter when it asks to install or repair using recovery console. dont press R then agree to the licensce agreement, then select the xp installation u want to repair (there is probably only 1) and this time press R to repair it all above done at own risk i wont take any responsibility for any problems
Guest J1A1H Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 thanks for the info i don't think i will try it i will see wat is wrong with it thanks though
Guest arawak Posted January 13, 2003 Report Posted January 13, 2003 Run System Restore which you should be able to find in the programs menu. Follow the prompts and restore to a date prior to having the problems. This will set everything back to the state it was in prior to the problems. It's very straight forward so you shouldn't have any problems :D
Guest silv Posted January 14, 2003 Report Posted January 14, 2003 I have had exactly the same problem with trying to copy files to the spv, For some reason I can copy a zipped folder on to the spv, but not individual files i.e Jpeg, or wav. I have the system restore program but this has not solved the problem. I am going to contact microsoft hel to see if they have any idears. .... I will let you know what they say
Guest J1A1H Posted January 15, 2003 Report Posted January 15, 2003 yea i will try that and see wat they say
Guest Rob.P Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 When copying the file from desktop to folder on phone try holding down ctrl key whilst dragging the file so that u get a plus (copy) on the edge of the icon u are dragging it should work that way.
Guest J1A1H Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 I will try that thanks for the info
Guest Baadsha Posted January 16, 2003 Report Posted January 16, 2003 hello the problem in winxp is that it wants the active sync to have open the phone explorer browser that is built in in activesync once you have that open then you can go and drag or cut and paste anything into the phone i hope this helps i hope i am answering right have not really bothered to read the whole chapter on this problem
Guest silv Posted January 17, 2003 Report Posted January 17, 2003 I have'nt tried using the ctrl key jet but I did find that even though you can not paste files on to the spv it will let you paste folders. so what i did was... 1. made a temp file on xp 2. copyed the files a want on the xpv in to this file 3. copy and paste the whole folder into the spv 4. open the folder in the spv then copy the files from the folder into the directory in spv explorer 5. delete the folder in the spv Bit of a long winded way of doing it but it did work. Will try using the ctrl key, as this way will be a lot simpler if it works.
Guest jmh642388 Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 And I have the same problem................! Will let you know if I get it resolved.
