Guest DJHope Posted November 26, 2002 Report Posted November 26, 2002 Ok now this seems really strange but believe me it works, its seems as tho outlook xp takes your LOCATION code, in our case +44, and places a space between it and the phone number (bugger that dosnt work on SPV). Now an intresting thing is if you use any other + number for example +45,+46 etc it DOSNT place this space. In order to solve these mearly change it, the registry key you need is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionTelephonyLocationsLocati n1 Obviously it may not be location 1 it could be anything you choose to name it however the key you want to change here is Country, simple wack in a differnent number, now outlook xp stops putting the space in REJOYCE! If you want to change 07 numbers export contacts to a csv file do a find and replace and change it to +44 as sugested previously! Cheers DJ Hope!
Guest Anonymous Posted November 27, 2002 Report Posted November 27, 2002 I have the space in most of my numbers on the SPV. Looks a bit odd but they still work fine. Mike.
Guest Cent Posted November 27, 2002 Report Posted November 27, 2002 DjHope : ... Great solve .. I realized this too and was hunting for how to get rid of it :D ... u were faster .... Mikez ... this is a problem when receiving SMS only. It shows the number instead of the person because of the space.
Guest Anonymous Posted November 27, 2002 Report Posted November 27, 2002 Mikez ... this is a problem when receiving SMS only. It shows the number instead of the person because of the space. OIC - hadn't noticed that. Incidentally, you don't need to edit the registry directly, you can change it in Control Panel/Phone and Modem Options/Dialing Rules/Edit Location. On second thoughts, it's probably quicker to do it via the registry :D
Guest DJHope Posted November 27, 2002 Report Posted November 27, 2002 Did it work? havnt got my smartphone yet, still waiting! :D
Guest Matt Whitfield Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 This may be a dumb question, but what is the Outlook Contact Reformatter supposed to do? I installed it, then restarted Outlook (I have Outlook 2002). First of all it fell over, so I restarted again and it said previously there had been a serious problem with pmailext.dll (which I assume is the contact reformatter). I've also tried the SPV number formatter and that starts up with a module load error. Fortunately I'm synching few enough numbers from my contacts to just about edit them all by hand if I really had to, but has anyone else had similiar problems? Cheers,
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 My contacts are all in the "+44 (1234) 567890" format, and are picked up in calls/SMS/MMS. I have only had one problem when i recieved a call just after turning the phone on, and it wasnt idenitifed. I assued this was due to the db not being full loaded/initiated
Guest Matt Whitfield Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 All mine are in the format 12345 123 123, so they seem to work for calls but they don't get associated against the contacts when I get SMS messages... If the Outlook Contact Reformatter, or the other number conversion tool could convert all my numbers to +44 that'd be great as that's a far nicer option than hand editing, but neither app seems to be doing anything sensible... ;)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 As was suggested earlier in the thread, Word/Wordpad has a find and replace feature
Guest Matt Whitfield Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 Yup, that would work - cheers. I'll have to wait until I'm near my Office 2K CD again though as for some strange reason Outlook doesn't seem to have any of the export filters installed...
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 20, 2003 Report Posted January 20, 2003 heheh. "Custom Install > Run [Everything] Run My Computer" ;)
Guest pxtigermoon Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 It seems that if I have any NON-numerics in the phone numbers of my contacts, I'm not able to send MMS. +447973xxxxxx is fine 07973xxxxxx is fine But Outlook's default (pre editing reg as above): +44 7973xxxxxx or even +44 7973 xxxxxx - they don't work. Pain in de bum. Going to fiddle with regedit now.
Guest JimBob Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 I'm using Outlook XP, I have spaces after the +44 (e.g. +44 12345678) but I do not have this problem of contacts not being recognised and not being able to dial numbers etc. Why is this so? Why am I ok and why are other people experiencing problems? Surely it should either work or it shouldnt work!
Guest pxtigermoon Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 Regedit worked - the spaces are gone - all numbers are now in the format of +447973xxxxxx which works with SMS, MMS, Phone, and everything else. So I'm happy - thanks to folks for this info. PS: Has anyone else has problems with sending MMS if the number has a space in it!? P.
Guest damianbyrne Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 What value/number did you put in Regedit to get rid of the spaces, No matter what number I put in, It isn't changing the number format in Outlook (XP/2002) TIA
Guest v1nn1e Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 Once you have edited the registry, the contacts won't have their spaces removed. Only new contacts after this change will have their spaces ommited. You have reformat the existing contacts using the find an replece features on various programs or by using some reformatting programs available from modaco. Just do a search on it.
