Guest Ben Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 I'm not bragging, and I don't want this to turn into a my phone is better than your phone contest, but... I've just got the best life out of my battery. Yes.. I know its still crap for a phone, especially as it was quoted at 100 hours, but I've managed 61 hours from waking up on Thursday morning to getting the battery warning message last night. I'm in an area with medium/poor (on occasions) signal strength, using the phone for sms/mms and phone call use. I've no idea what I've done to get this wonderful battery life - it was charged in the USB docking station (I damaged one of the clips on the plug in adaptor.. doh!) with a home screen that I created myself. Maybe theres hope in it yet ! Ben.
Guest spacemonkey Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 Do you want to post your homescreen XML?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 So is that just calls and sms only? No other apps running or the pain in the ass of using the torch feature :D when you press a key when in locked mode? I've managed almost 48 hrs with min use but thats my limit and very rare :(
Guest J1A1H Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 wat do u mean the torch feature are u just being sarcastic by how bright the light is or wat?
Guest Ben Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 Calls & SMS'..but no! Not using the torchmode..I quite often check to see if I have any messages which turns the backlight on. I think I used MSN Messenger on a couple of occasions. I'm managed 48 hours before with normal use (but only a couple of times) - I still have no idea why I managed to get 61 hours this time around. If anyone wants my XML - its nothing special. Just a big clock with SMS/Email/Voice and Appointments plugin. <?xml version="1.0"?> <home> <author>Ben Ryder</author> <contacturl>[email protected]</contacturl> <title lang="0x0409">Ben2</title> Guest Vixxen Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 48 hours....and minimum use....a few text messages.......calls.....and checking of the news pages. I REALLY hope its addressed in the update.... :D
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 wat do u mean the torch feature are u just being sarcastic by how bright the light is or wat? Errrr yes read other posts around this forum and you will see what i mean :D but it does make a good torch on those dark nightsearly mornings
Guest yzbob Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 mine came in very useful last night as it was the only light we had in the house for 1/2 an hour during a power cut. really can be used as a torch!!
Guest lycrawearer Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 Since changing my homescreen to the Symbios one - I have found that my battery life has almost doubled ! I'm now getting 2 days out of the phone rather 1 day ! Maybe the homescreen does 'change' things ? Lycarwearer
Guest crimminsky Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 I was down in Weymouth the other day and I was visiting Portland Bill lighthouse when suddenly they had a powercut...luckily I was there.....I just spun around with my SPV until the power came back on....saved 5 shipping disasters apparently........ :D
Guest youngerpants Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 Yup, my phone life has been shocking since i bought it, but for some reason, during normal use (voice, email, sms, web, video the lot) I havnt had to charge my phone since thursday night... Its Saturday now! I am a very happy bunny who hopes this will continue :D
Guest Shire29 Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 crimminksky, I'm sorry I don't believe that story. If you had used your SPV it would have blinded all the skippers and cuased 5 shipping disasters. It's not good to tell porkies to other SPV users. Please don't do it again. Cheers, Shire
Guest crimminsky Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 no, it was quite a foggy night so I think that did defused the brightness a bit.....just had a call from the pyramid casino in Las Vegas, their laser has gone out and was wondering if I could step in......................:D
Guest Shire29 Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003  ooops I do apologise, I jumped to the wrong conclusion, again. (note to self "always check the weather forecast before replying to posts") Please forgive me. Vegas eh, you lucky b******. Cheers, Shire
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 12, 2003 Report Posted January 12, 2003 managed to test my battery life this wekend, as i've been away from home. charged it last nite on the mains charger for about 12 hrs until about 10am. didnt get the battery warning until about 4:30 this afternoon. incedentally this was still with 28% battery life... Luckily i was on a virgin voyager so i just lpugged my charger into the wall and had it charging on my way home :D
Guest mojo Posted January 13, 2003 Report Posted January 13, 2003 Can someone tell me what to do with this xml code so i can use it on my phone. Thanx
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 13, 2003 Report Posted January 13, 2003 there is a forum search at the top of the page, and this has been covered many times already (although not specifically i notice). page the xml into notepad > save a .home.xml > connect r phone to ur pc > copy the .home.xml file to ISPM|Application DataHome > select home screen from settings menu...
Guest tricky Posted January 13, 2003 Report Posted January 13, 2003 i cant figure it out myself? i did not use my phone for 3 days (was using another) and it still showed 3 bars of power? having charged it through the usb cable? yet another occaision doing the same, i made 1 phone call of about 3 minutes and after 24hours i had the battery warning? the power consumption is up and down like a brides nighty! it really does not make any sense? tricky
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted January 13, 2003 Report Posted January 13, 2003 No, different people have different lifespans at different times :/, hopefully this will all be addressed in the infamous update...
