I am disabled and would love to have a small keyboard to be able to plug in the spv when working on the phone for entering information

Orange indicated that one of their partners was working on a neoprene keyboard add-on for the spv - hopefully it will come out at the same time as the new batteries etc I'd imagine it'll be somewhat like the PocketPC/Palm add on keyboards, those are quite easy to use..

wonder if theyed give an eta on holo-projected keyboards :D

You mean the infra-red ones projected on to the desk? Actually, I believe those are coming out at the second part of this year.. Now those are snazzy..

i heard that xda accessories are compatable and they have 2 types of keyboards available.

Do they need extra software though? Now we're past the certification problem theres still the SmartPhone/PocketPC boundry to get over...

Well, I just took a chance and it worked....

I was not all that keen on foldable keyboards so bought myself an fX100 flexible/waterproof keyboard.

http://www.palminfocenter.com/view_Story.asp?ID=2883

I bought the iPAQ version. (cost around 40 pounds).

Apparently HTC manufacture not only the SPV and XDA but also iPAQs....

Then all you need is a cable adaptor to convert iPAQ 3600/3700 to XDA. I got one from Gomadic:

http://www.gomadic.com/ip31totmobxd.html

for $20.

This adaptor should allow you to use most iPAQ accessories on your SPV.

My only remaining problem was the serial driver installation.... of course the SPV complained about certification.

So I bit the bullet and unlocked the Phone.... took 3 attempts. Keyboard now works! Perhaps some of the keys/function keys not QUITE working as expected but pretty damn good and the keyboard touch is very nice....

I installed the PocketPC drivers - was not sure whether to try them or the WinCE version..... might try the other and see how that works....

ok we have a XDA keyboard we are hacking to bits so that it will ft the correct way round, you say that you used the pocketPC drivers for the serial keyboard, the XDA drivers will not install on the SVP (now there is a suprise), so i wondered which serial drivers you installed, and is it possible to tell me what drivers you used

cheers

Neo,

When you say the XDA drivers will not install do you mean because of certification, or do they install but simpy not work?

To get my keyboard to work I had to unlock the phone and then install the driver.....

You can get the latest drivers for this keyboard from:

http://www.flexis.co.kr/web/main.htm

Not sure if they would work with a different keyboard....

the sda drivers just said failed to install, paul from this forum also tried on his phone and it did the same

Another thing to try..... (but you probably have already)

I found that the driver did not install properly if installed to the SD card. If installed to phone it was fine....

sorry i was in a rush when i typed my last mesg, we kinda got the XDA keyboard working with the WinCE drivers for the flex keyboard but all the keymap is completely wrong, so i think later we are going to try with the ipaq drivers,

our director is meeting with the product director from orange now, to discuss the phone in more and a product we are working on (web based CRM) so ill update more on our progress later

At first when I installed the keymap did not look quite right either.... and not all keys appeared to work....

But I then discovered that if I locked the keys into numeric mode then all was fine.... not sure if that helps.

Re: FX100 Flexi Keyboard + iPaq to XDA adapter

(see previous post in this section)

I bought both of the above and tested on an unlocked Orange SPV with both WinCE and iPaq drivers. Both installed successfully, but some of the keys don't work:

ie. a, 1, i, j, 6, 7, -, backspace, up arrow, o, p, u, z, /, comma, =.

All the other keys work perfectly.

Any one got any ideas?

I've sent an email to the manufacturer.

Will let you know if I get any response.

This will be a great keyboard if the drivers are fixed.

The manufacturer sent me a replacement keyboard and it works great!!!

No need for the stupid Orange update, as required for the fabric keyboard.

This Flexis Keyboard rocks!!!
